I know this is an old movie but I was at Blockbuster and wanted to get a movie in the 2 for $22 deal and I could only find 1 I wanted so I just decided to pick up Cruel Intentions because I’ve heard a lot about it.

Cruel Intentions is suggested by the novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” Now I’ve never read the book so I can’t relate but I found the movie an honestly corrupt entertaining picture. It’s about two rich step-siblings who toy with people from their school. Now, Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) decides to challenge her stepbrother (Ryan Phillipe) to seduce their new virginal, bible-hugging, student Annette (Reese Witherspoon). If Kathryn wins, she gets his car and if he wins he gets to bed Kathryn. I fell in love with this movie from the start to the end, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar shine in their roles especially SMG she makes you love her even know she is the villain. Though the movie has some scenes that could have been taken out, the movie is great! It goes to where no other teen movie has gone, it gives it self more to work with by raising the PG-13 rating.

Overall, This movie is a lot of fun it will make you laugh and maybe even cry. I would suggest it to anyone who’s in the mood for a funny, romantic, drama! Though, I have to warn you the movie can get really raunchy at times.

It is also based on the 1988 movie, Dangerous Liaisons which has a whole string of older familiar faces: Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, Keanu Reeves, and Uma Thurman (her fourth movie at the ripe old age of 18). One of the players in Dangerous Liaisons, Swoosie Kurtz who played Madame de Volanges, was also in Cruel Intentions as Dr. Regina Greenbaum. Just some trival stuff...

The movie 'Valmont' is also based on this story.  It starred Colin Firth and Fairuza Balk.

I think Dangerous Liaisons is a far better film than Cruel Intentions!

I love period set films and DL has a far superior cast! The acting is fantastic and the settings are beautiful.

I think Cruel Intentions is remembered really only for two things. One, Salma and Buffy, whatever her name is, getting it on and ending with The Verve's song, 'Bittersweet Symphony'.

The main reason I like this film is for the dialogue. It's so sharp. My favourite line is probably when Kathryn says:

"Do you think I relish the fact that I have to act like Mary Sunshine 24/7 so I can be considered a lady? I'm the Marcia f*cking Brady of the Upper East Side, and sometimes I wanna kill myself."

Lol. I woudn't rent either of the sequels though, they look like pure cr*p.

"Are you saying I'm crazy!?"
"Oh no, but I'm certainly thinking it loudly"

Why must you blast something that was so beautiful. I mean the song of course, no wait, I mean Buffy, no wait......

Only kidding Andy! Dangerous Liasons was better than Cruel Intentions, and the prequel to Cruel Intentions was the least entertaining of the three.

Yup, but it was not very good. It did not have any of the original characters. It did have some explaination as to how Sebastian got the leather book, and to why he became such an evil dude. Not really worth watching, unless you are really into the second one.

Later (nicely done)

I love that song "Bittersweet Symphony." Never seen the movie though, I heard it was quite provacative, but that's not the reason I never saw it. I saw the prequel and was let down and didn't want to see Cruel Intentions. But after a good review, maybe I will.

Is the prequel Cruel Intentions 3, or does it have a different title? No one seems to have stated the title beyond "the prequel to Cruel Intentions."

Well they all have to be prequels, don't they? I know that Cruel Intentions 2 has Sebastian in it, and we all know that can't be possible. (I know the synopsis of the movie)

Good point. That would take the series up a notch on an interesting factor of playing backwards. I may acually have to watch it now.
