Alright, I'm hyped and happy to report that I got my uncut version today, FINALLY! So this is why I'm doing a review on such an old movie... However, very, very good movie.

I'm both happy and sad about the uncut version, though. It's picture is way way better than my old VHS and orginal DVD copy... however, the extra's are a little lacking. Yes, there is, no matter what others will say who've seen it, more gore and footage in this one. It runs 7 minutes longer than the orginal versions most have seen.

However, a lot of stuff is still yet to be explained that I really wanted answers to. The ending for one... and any who have seen this movie will know what I'm talking about. I also would've liked to see the film festivle where this movie took top honors and won best special effects make up in any horror movie to date. It was in spain or somewhere, though... so it might've not been too big a deal.

The movie's killer is actually based, loosely, on the old radio/comic book hero THE SHADOW... this was revealed on the dvd to my surprise.

The movie also went by the name: A THOUSAND CRIES OWNS THE NIGHT.

Anyways...

PIECES: Is about a little boy who was caught putting a puzzle together that he shouldn't have been putting together. A puzzle of a naked woman, well, Mommy catches him and gives him a stern smack in the mouth and tells him to grab a trash sack to throw it away... while he runs out of the room she stays and picks it up. When he returns, a plastic bag is the furthest thing in his hand... it's an axe and it's got a date with mommy's head and hand.

The scene in which follows is the most graphic, brutal, hyper realistic death I've ever seen in any movie... it's one of them "How could they fake that and why am I watching this moments" in horror movie land. This movie, lucky for us, is loaded with moments of like this one...

The cops arrive and find the room a bloody mess... looking in the closet they find the boy, also a bloody mess. He tells them that a man came in and did this. Fast forward 40 years to a college campus... A chainsaw weilding mad man is on the loose, killing and dismembering women with a twist... each time he does so... a different body part is missing. Could be a hand, a foot, a leg... could be a finger or an ear or eye ball... A head, an arm, whatever he feels like doing basically... and it all ties up in brilliant, way way way ahead of its time fashion at the end.

A boy and his girlfriend decide to do some campus detective work, while not in class and making out, since the cops aren't doing the job good enough... Detective work that is.

Anyways what follows is a slew of killings. All done with the most intense, brutal fashion... I've ever seen. The blood is the original formula, not this fake ass new shit that looks like strawberry surrup. The amputations are breath taking and the knife to the back of the head, out the mouth teeth and all, has to be seen to be believed... It's an OUCH out loud moment.

In the end... I don't think anyone, not even myself who's seen them all, could guess the killer the 1st time out... However, I was very very young my 1st time watching this one... 8 years old to be exact. I still think, with how they crafted the story, it's impossible to tell.

But even if you could tell... what you're in store for at the very end of the movie is something that'll stick with you for many, many years... I don't know why they did it or what it means but it's deranged, sudden, and takes you off guard.

I wish this was explained. It wasn't, though

However, the movie isn't all gore and no filler. It has it's moments of pure ass... sad as it is, though, with all italian movies about the american assholes who do the voice acting ruin them. This one is no different... these out of work no talents they cast for the voices is tottally appauling. The americans ruin every italian movie with their lame dick acting, it's amazing how well the movie is in Italian. Too bad I don't speak it.

There is also a few scenes that'll leave you scratching your head too. The rollerskater thru the window pane of glass... OUCH! & RANDOM.

They did explain the CHOP SUEY GUY too... for any who have seen it. PRODUCER - DICK RANDALL was making KUNG FU MOVIES and wanted to throw a chinese man in there making a fool out of himself. Funny stuff. Didn't make sense with the movie, but funny.

In the end, though, this movie is brilliant! It ranks up there with FULCI's: NEW YORK RIPPER, though not as smart as that slasher is.

5 out of 5: A movie that'll keep you hooked, repulsed, guessing, and laughing all at the same time.

A few deaths might turn you away from the movie, but don't let it.

The Tennis player in the shower scene.
The elevator arm amputation.
The knife thru the back of the head on the water bed.
The axe to mommys head and hand.

The killer in this movie makes leather face look like a school girl. Trust me...

Go check it out, if you've not been blessed by it already.

Man I wish you'd stop posting these because everytime you do I go look for them and guess what... I can't find them and it's really becoming annoying.

That's Canada for you, these god forsaken stores thatwon't carry an R Rated movies even though they glorify Scarface and The Godfather with adverts... It's like the horror genre doesn't exist to them and they live in this little world.

It's a jaded outlook they have and I'm growing tired of it. Maybe if "The world was mine" they'd be out of business and back on the street.

Really? Damn... That's a shame. Canada has it's pro's though... You can get it on line for like 5 bucks if that from amazon. It won't be the D.C. version but it's still worth the 5 bucks.

You can also get it on a lot of them compilation horror sets too... the ones they sell at bestbuy for like 6 bucks with like 20 movies on them, LOL! My friend Justin couldn't find it either so he just ended up getting it with like 10 other movies in this horror set thing for like 15 bucks. It's well worth it.

I finally got paypal to work so I can look on E Bay or cduniverse.com which has great low prices on new DVD's, CD's and so on but some films are a little pricey especially when converted to Canadian and the shipping rates... Plus customs rapes me everytime by charging an extra 30 bucks ha-ha

Isn't it weird how I changed the topic and yet at the end of the day nobody will care because you're one of the only true horror fans on this site... Some people say they are but they only know mainstream stuff.
