By the time Hank Williams died, drunk, drugged and alone in the back seat of his Cadillac on New Years Eve 1952, he had redefined country music. He was 29 years old. Honky Tonk Blues is the first feature length documentary to tell the story of Country music’s most important figure and his brilliant, tortured life.

Explains it all doesn’t it? This is the story of Hank Williams and you really understand how and why our stars whether it be actors or musicians are just like us and not untouchable.

He only recorded 88 songs before he died, that's not a lot but as said on the DVD half were hits.

Back in these days I guess it was easier for a guy like Hank to be a star and still be normal like you and I without paparazzi. They aren’t even as good as scum on the bottom of a lake… pathetic little people who can’t get real jobs.

This is a very revealing doc and I recommend it to hank fans or Country music fans who’d like to see what it used to be like before the shame that is NEW country.

It’s sad that Tupac and Ray Charles get films made about their lives and Hank who has a story to be told and is an interesting historical figure in music history gets forgotten… That’s the real travesty; I guess Hollywood goes where the money is. Tupac brings in an entire culture of RAP viewers and Ray Charles was still alive when his film was made.

My final thoughts are great DVD, great singer, overall I have to say this is a collector’s item for reasons I mentioned earlier.

The DVD has some extra conversations with family and friends if you’re wondering.

Movie - 9 out of 10
DVD – 8 out of 10

The only thing I wish they would have did or added was either some extra conversations with Hank Jr and Hank III and or a commentary.
