I've been waiting for this film since the very last words of Underworld when I saw it for the first time 2 years ago. I entered the theater 35 minutes before it was to begin and soon after I sat down, the entire theater filled up. There was a ratio of 4 men to 1 woman and can you believe some parents brought their 4 and 7 year old into that movie? Some babies and pregnant women, but mostly college-age boys and their girlfriends. But it was packed for a movie that showed before the work-day was over.

I was a little worried that Evolution wouldn't live up to my expectations (especially after I had 2 years to build them) but after the first 20 minutes, those expectations were thrown out the window and I had a very good time. The thing I didn't like about the first one was remedied in the second installation. Evolution had a rock-solid plot that we didn't have all the answers to until well into the second act. Some of the CG effects were obvious (like the helicopter/castle scene) but at the end of the film, the over-the-top gore and obvious effects didn't matter at all. Selene was even cooler than she was in the first one. Michael wasn't her "girlfriend," but had a fair-share of the action. There was significantly more chemistry between Selene and Michael and, of course, the "see everything but see nothing at all" sex scene was smokin' hot. This was a good sequel with an A-list cast (Sir Derek Jacobi, anyone?). Len Wiseman pulled it off and then some, it has to be seen to be believed. Great way to start 2006 movie season, I just hope the rest of the year's movies can do the same.

However, and I have to say this, in the extended cut of Underworld there's a second kiss between Selene and Michael starting out in a close-up then Wiseman cuts to a wide-wide shot. That bugged the hell out of me because it made the kiss seem way longer than it should've been. He did the same thing in the sequel. So that bugged me even more. But even that doesn't knock down my rating:

...and Kate Beckinsale is even lower than scum to me.

Ouch.

...what'd Kate Beckinsale do?

You're talking to someone who bought the Underworld theatrical cut, 1st extended cut, and thought about buying the second exten. cut.. a lot. And I bought the novel, soundtrack, and theatrical poster. I thought the first and second were great, obviously.

I thought it was worth the money to get in and worth the money to see it again today. You can spend the 9-10 bucks to see it now or the 5-6 dollars to rent the DVD six months from now. I'd be tearing my hair out waiting six months, but that's just me. It's really awesome. The style, plot, action, and Selene were all top-notch.

I was going to go see this movie but I didn't want to come off as a "troll" on this site when I made my review.  I knew I was going to hate it from the beginning because I hate Len Wiseman with a passion and Kate Beckinsale is even lower than scum to me.  So regardless of the movie's worth I was going to give it a bad review.  I saw the first movie, enjoyed it but then I found out exactly what type of people those two scumbags were and I can never bring myself to watch another one of their movies again.

I'm glad people are enjoying it though, it seemed like it could have been a good movie franchise to watch.

Huh?

Yeah, I too would like to know what these people did for you to hate them so much.

Personally, I didn't care for Underworld. I hate that vampires have now become these cool, sexy characters that you're supposed to root for and not these creepy, nasty villains you're supposed to abhor.

The movie was too overdone and i've seen it all before. It all gets old after a while.

Definitly not as good as the first.

I fell asleep during the first in the theaters. It was one of the worst movies I've seen. Next to A History of Violence.
