If I had two words to describe this film it would be HOLY CRAP!
This film rocked. from start to finish this is one heck of a ride. There is tons of blood and boobs, so in other words this is the perfect guy movie.
The story is quite simple, the 300 soldiers of Sparta go up against a million Persians, the first half hour is set up, the last hour and a half is Wall to wall action, blood sprays across the screen in beautiful red gushes.
The look of the film is great, the costumes, make up and set design were fantastic, on a technical level this is a masterpiece, but the story itself is also very good, it works on both levels.
I would have to say this is the best film I have seen so far this year. If you like films like Gladiator and Lord of the rings I'm pretty sure that you will get a kick out of this movie.
Haven't seen this yet, but I'm going to pretty soon. This movie looks badass and I cannot wait to see it. Especially since almost every scene (or every scene) was done in front of a blue screen. Plus, it's made by one of my favorite directors: Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead '04)
This was kind of disappointing after waiting so long… and sitting behind a fat guy with gas, didn’t really help. >
The visuals were insane, and Snyder made it look similar to the way Sin City was shot, which captured the whole comic book vibe. But, the terrible acting made every scene without violence or nipples seem to stretch on forever. Basically, my only real complaint was the acting, which ruined some of my favorite parts from the comic book.
Don't get me wrong, the fighting scenes were awesome, but not enough to make me see it again or recommend it to anyone.

Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
This movie was amazing! Take your two most favourite war movies and put them together, and they still wont be as good. I loved the fighting scenes because when they start fighting they do kind of like a martix slow motion, and its great cause it gives you a chance to see whats happening all around the character. the only acting that I had a problem with was Xerxes
The whole movie is nothing but fancy, slow-mo shots of CGI blood and cut off body parts. The CGI, to me, was nothing to brag about. And the soundtrack, for this kind of movie, should have been way better.
I understand it's made like a graphic novel, and it did have some good visualizations. But as a movie, it just didn't do well. Because the fight scenes were shot so slow for "effect", the other parts of the film just felt that much slower.
It's cool if you want to watch a fighting video for 2 hours. But if you're looking for a movie with any kind of story, it's not there.
Worth the matinee, I guess. (no offense to those who like it, just my opinion...)
I fell to the hype, and was not disappointed. The movie was incredible. Though there were times where it felt slow, it was definitely an awesome film, my only complaint was that Zirkseys looked like a gay chip and dales stripper. The actors did a pretty good job for guys I've never seen in my life.
"Spartans! Tonight, we dine in HELL!!" (King Leonidas)
Ok first of all, the special effects in "300" are fantastic, and i even heard it didn't take that much money to do the CGI which suprised me. The movie was stunning to look at, but what really lacked was, well, the story. I didn't really connect with any characters throughout the movie, and that was the real downfall i thought. The film was more of a special effects fest rather than anything else. Gerard Butler's Scottish accent crept into his accent far too often which made his character unauthentic but God, what a fucking six pack he had. Did the director beef all they guys up or what? Anyways it wasn't a bad movie, but the story could have been a lot better. There is also some boobs i would recommend you to see.
But not for everyone that's for sure. Like others have already mentioned, there is little to no character-development and the story actually doesn't go beyond its premise. 300 Spartans VS a million Persians.
But this was a feast for the senses! This is a new way of making movies, and like we only appreciate Leni Riefenstahl as a genius on a technichal level, this should also be the case with 300. And throw in a lot of muddy cartoon blood and a few boobs for good measure and you've got yourself a genuine guy's flick on your hands.
But what I liked most about the movie, was how it hadn't been watered down (so much) into a touchy-feely post-feminist lovefest where classical characters suddenly are imbued with modern notions of equality, anti-war sentiments and the likes which was ultimately Troy's downfall (the movie, mind you!)). Spartans were militaristic old fashioned warriors who didn't mind war and that shone through.
Some people have called it pro-fascist, and though I think that's an extremely silly simplification, the film does celebrate nationalism and martyr-death ad nauseum. And I don't mind that one bit, because even though these values couldn't be further removed from my own, I'm just happy to see a movie get made that isn't homogenized into our cookie-cutter PRO-DEMOCRACY, PRO-ANIMAL RIGHTS, PRO-ENVIRONMENTLISM-framework rife in most Hollywood blockbusters.
The only thing that annoyed me was all that talk about freedom. It seemed like another attempt to ennoble a ferocious character with modern morals. Braveheart, anyone?
But all in all a visceral experience, that brings a comic to life like no other!

"The Flux capacitor. It's what makes time travel possible."
This movie was, imo, boring! So much so I fell asleep. I did.
As others have said, there was no character development and little in terms of plot. Yawn! Still, I have to give credit where credit is due, I liked the blood -- if you're gonna decapitate someone, there should be blood, copious amount of it.
But come on, as for historical accuracy, there was none. There was, though, alot of homo-eroticism. Which is appropriate given that the Spartans enaged in homosexual sex, and lots of it.
Funny that we celebrate them, but neglect to comment on what they, themselves, celebrated...hmmm? Interesting!
Yeah I honestly feel this film should come with a disclaimer saying "Based on legend NOT actual history", because a lot of people seemed to be confused in the theater.
But in a lot of ways I liked how it was honest about it. I mean we've got a friggin' satyr at Xerxes' court! The movie was very unapologetic about its authenticity, and the way it depicts the legend itself makes the audience keenly aware we're dealing with myth here, and not history. They should probably have made that clear in the advertisments as well though...

I saw this movie mostly because Lena Headey was in it and I love her, but could've done without the porno-like sex "sequence." A little uncomfortable for me. But I still liked it. It's action-packed and exactly what I wanted. Worth my money.
