Quoted Text
This documentary focuses on the lives of professional wrestlers Terry Funk, Mick Foley (Mankind), Jake Roberts (Jake the Snake), and Darren Drozdov (Droz). As the film progresses the story of their lives unfolds, as well as we learn how the wrestling industry is not the plastic-weapons fake-slap sideshow that many have perceived it as. We are shown how moves, although not actually injuring anyone, are not fake, and extreme training is required to be able to perform the stunts without being harmed. We are also treated to interviews with the family of Mick Foley and what it is like for them to know their father literally puts his life on the line every week and how it feels to have other children call their father a "fake". Vince McMahon, owner of World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, also makes a few appearances, responding to criticism on various wrestling situations, including, once again, his real athletes very real orginization being called fake by sources such as USA Today and various news programs.

Although not the definitive look at behind the scenes in wrestling, it is a very moving documentary about wrestling and the behind the scenes.

They have some rare OOC from Vince McMahon and various other personalities.

Watching Mick Foley's kids crying as he was handcuffed and beaten was a touching moment that not many wrestling fans will ever see.

It also has a taste of Jake "The Snake" Roberts backstory about how his father molested his mother which lead to the birth of him and that he and his father aren't close and now he's done the same thing to his family minus the molestation.

The rest of the story is on his "Pick Your Poison" DVD released by World Wrestling Entertainment and is a really interesting look at Jake.

People enjoy picking apart wrestling for various reasons but none of those people know anything about wrestling beyond WWF/E and that is sad.

This was an enjoyable documentary, very entertaining and touching.

This, I think along with Hoop dreams and Scared straight, is one of the best documentaries out there, like hoop dreams it's not so much about the sport than about the people.  Even if you are not into wrestling I think you would enjoy it, well, enjoy maybe is the wrong word, but it very powerful.

I saw this a few years ago and what has stuck with me is the Jake "the snake" Roberts part, this would be an amazing doc on it's own, this is some harsh stuff, it is very hard to watch, this guy has lived one of the worst lives i could imagine, and the scene with him and his father is powerful.  There is a seen with Jake and his dad that is very moving, but in a sad way, how can this guy still have him in his ife?    I wouldn't wish this guys life on my worst enemies cat,

the Mick Foley segment also is stuck in my mind, what a brutal match, and his kids reaction is understandable, what is amazing is how the complete opposite he is in real life, he is nothing what you would expect.

This was an awesome movie and i is also very graphic, this is what a doc is supposed to be, not like the crap Michael Moore shits out.  This is honest and real, and it sure does not glamorize wrestling that's for sure, but it also doesn't make it the Villain, these are real people with real problems, and their life sucked even before they became wrestlers.

I remember watching this when it was first released and dvd.  I did find it enjoyable, but it wasn't able to knock off American Movie as my all time favorite documentary.

I had also read the Mick Foley book (Have a Nice Day), where he goes into a little more detail about his life and what not that wasn't shown here.  I'd recommend that to anyone who enjoyed this.

My favorite part?

"He's gonna puke!  He's gonne puke!"

And it is. WWE seen the dollar signs at the end of the rainbow and gave Jake a documentary.

Movies like this about wrestling are a bit like "shoot interviews" which are sit downs with wrestlers about life and the hardships of the business.

I really enjoy shoot interviews with wrestlers because they are uncut and uncensored because nobody owns them. When you sign a contract with WWE, they own you for however long you sign for.
