The Brave one is another death wish/Death sentence rip off, but in fact it is actually pretty good, actually it is really good, due mostly to the performances by Jodie Foster and Terrance Howard.
SPOILERS
Jodie Foster plays a radio talk show host who along with her fiance is brutally beaten, in fact her fiance is killed during the attack. She is in a comma for a month, when she gets out of the hospital she bus herself a gun because she is filled with fear. One night at the Quick E Mart, or whatever you call em, a man walks in and shoots the service clerk, fearing for her life Jodi kills the man. A weird thing happens to her though, she doesn't feel bad for what she did, so feeling she decides to go out and hunt down the scum that walk the streets, killing them off one by one.
On her trail is a cop played by Terrance Howard who she befriends. The two start up a friendship, and soon Terrance believes Jodi is the serial killer he is looking for, and soon after that Jodi knows that he knows.
The best part of the film is watching these two great actors, their characters are both so interesting they bring this woman with a grudge story up many levels, both seem so real, not just puppets that are used to manipulate the plot(until the last 5 min)
For the most part the movie is solid, there are some flaws. It seems whenever Jodi kills someone no one is around, which is weird cause it takes place in new york, the convenience store that is in the middle of the city has no customers, the subway is empty, but in fact that didn't bother me. what bothered me was the ending, the last five minutes crumble as the Terrance Howard character does a complete 180, I was hoping for the ending it was leading to, but they coped out and went with the happy ending, which for me didn;t work.
All in all the movie is well made and very well acted, but the last couple minutes stop it from being a great film,
