Lately I've become obsessed with a film called "The Room".

It all started when I was flying to Los Angeles, and I read an article in Entertainment Weekly:

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20246031,00.html

Being a person who seeks out the best of the worst, I made it my mission to obtain a copy, especially after seeing the hilarious trailer:

http://www.theroommovie.com/roomtrailer2.html

Since then I've seen "The Room" about 6 times, attended a midnight screening (complete with Q & A with Tommy) and have loaned my copy out to numerous people.

If you like watching movies that are so bad they're good, this is, as many call it "The Citizen Kane of bad movies".  You should definitely seek it out.

Ha, I read an article about it a few months back, watched the trailer numerous times and read up on the film. Sounds hilarious. I am still yet to watch it though. Where did you pick up a copy of it from?

The trailer is pure comedy gold, and from what I've read about it, so is the actual film.

And did you go to the midnight screening where people throw spoons at the screen? I read that on certain showings the crowd do this as a reference to the film?

EDIT: Just watched the trailer again, forgot how awesome it was. I love the quotes at the end of it as well... I'd love to know what publications they came from.

FURTHER EDIT: Check this out - http://videogum.com/archives/really-bad-movies/the-rooms-tommy-wiseaus-new-si_050701.html Apparently Wiseau is producing a sit-com... There's a trailer there as well. I watched it and was like "wtf?!!".

Managed to get my hands on it, all I can say is wow, this was gold.

Still haven't watched it all, but my favourite scenes so far are:

- Johnny entering the flower shop, buying flowers, then exciting in about 8 seconds.
- The 'meeting' in the alleyway with Johnny, Denny, Mark and Mike, where Mike tells the infamous 'me underwears' story.
- Chris R attacking Denny on the roof, then Johnny and Mark taking Chris R to the police station, only to return about 90 seconds later.

This is true comedy gold. I serious love the 'me underwears' scene, I cried with laughter when Mark smacked Mike in the nuts with the football. Seriously, WTF?!!

You should definitely check out the Wikipedia page on "The Room" when you're done, especially the "Things to Look for" section.    Glad to see you're digging it.

I watched this last night and fell asleep part way through.  Imagine that.

My impression, based on what I watched, is that it's akin to watching a late night Cinemax movie that takes itself just seriously enough to ruin the fu*k scenes.

^ The sex scenes stop after the first half hour or so.  Of course, by then, the damage is done.

Goin' to see this tomorrow night with Wiseau in attendance.  Exciting!  He also offers a "Masters Class" before the screening for which people are able to submit scripts, one of which he chooses to direct as a teaching tool for the class!  Imagine what one could learn seeing one's dialogue as directed by Tommy Wiseau...

the story surrounding the room is just as intriguing as the film itself. best worst movie and a total blast to watch (especially if you're inebriated)

I first heard about this movie when I saw the review by Nostalgia Critic. It seemed... interesting. So far I've only seen bits and pieces, but this friday I'm finally gonna watch it with my gf and my little sisters (all of whom are as hyped as I am!). Oh, it's gonna be a blast!

Seeing the film in theatre was fun.  Spoons were thrown and much yelling occurred.  Tommy Wiseau did a Q & A before and afterwards and was extremely gracious and open about the film.  He stressed the importance of completely removing yourself from any director-related thinking while you are writing and focusing only on the script as a script.  He also talked about the importance of being able to tour around with a film and interact with the audience as opposed to the big cold factory of Hollywood filmmaking.

And, of course, he rambled and said some bizarre things that didn't make any sense.  Endearingly bizarre, though.

His main philosophy seemed to be one that he put directly in the film: that if more people love each other, the world will be a better place.  He had an appreciable "it is what it is" attitude in terms of the nature and the idiosyncrasies of The Room as a film; it was a nice reminder that it's important to stick to your guns on exactly what your creative work is going to be like, and leave it to others as to whether or not they choose to accept it.
