Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and starring Alistair Sim, this is the classic version of A Christmas Carol and is as good today as it ever was....maybe better when compared to today's soulless fayre.

Anyone who hasn't seen it should treat themselves to a viewing this Christmas.

Caught it today by chance when I had a couple of hours to kill. Literally every scene brought me to tears. It has a quite amazing magic to it that comes from the brilliance of the performances and the strength of the writing. Whilst there's been many versions of Dicken's classic no others get so close to the heart as this.

There's versions that have all the same scenes, with bigger budgets and more grandiose sets...but this leaves you feeling spiritually refreshed in a way that none of the others have, as good as some may have been.

A truly great film. One of the best I've ever seen.

I've seen dozens of adaptations of A Christmas Carol.  This one is, by far, the best.

This is my favorite serious take on it.  From the not so serious side, I like Scrooged with Bill Murray.

I wasn't fond of Scrooged; it seemed a little forced.  For the comical versions, I go for Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol.

While I haven't seen it in a while, I remember An American Christmas Carol, starring Henry Winkler, to be a good one.  And the musical version, starring Kelsey Grammer.
