This one's gonna be a doozy!

I know I've said to before, and we all know I'll say it again, but damn...this just may well be the worst movie of all time...in many different ways.

It's a $25 Million production, so, at least it looks OK, but other than that, this thing is shockingly, jaw droppingly horrific, and if Wes Craven or anyone else involved honestly believed, even for a few seconds, that this was a good concept, they seriously need help, and the sooner the better.

This is utter crap on display here.  The script/story/concept/premise/setup/execution is all woefully inept.  There are so many things wrong here, I feel compelled to go into some of them in detail, so here goes...

SPOILERS     SPOILERS     SPOILERS     SPOILERS

OK, let's start with the concept here...a serial killer with multiple personalities, known as the Riverton Ripper is killed while trying to kill his family, but he's not dead, actually, so he kills a bunch of cops and paramedics, and then disappears.  For some ridiculous reason, there happened to be 7 babies born in the small town at the same instant he disappeared.  Now, 16 years later, he's either back killing again or 1 of the kids has inherited his evil soul, and is killing the rest of the Riverton Seven.

Absolutely ridiculous and lame as can be.

The movie focuses on the Riverton Seven, who have all just turned 16 years old.  I really don't know why film makers continue to do this, as it irks me to no end, but as usual, we have a group of 20-22 year olds, playing 16 year olds, and it's ridiculous.  You know, it doesn't matter when you have characters in their 30's and 40's, being played by actors who are either younger or older, cause it doesn't matter at that age, nor does it matter how old they actually are supposed to be.  But when you've got 16 year old kids, and the script tells you this over and over, you need 16 year old kids, not actors in their 20's.

Which actually leads me to my next rant...this is an R rated movie about 16 year old kids, with almost no gore or onscreen kills, no nudity/sex, and other than dialogue, no reason to be R rated.  Completely foolish decision to not cut out the swearing and sex talk and go after a younger demographic, which is what this is catering to anyways.

There are almost no scares here, other than cheap jump scares.  There's really nothing scary even going on.  The vast majority of the movie is just shockingly dull and slow with lots and lots of stupid dialogue between 2 characters at a time, in a dull setting.  Every now and then, it will be obvious we're going to get a lame kill, as the characters do nothing but completely stupid, illogical and completely unbelievable things.

I found myself with my mouth agape numerous times in complete shock at how pathetic the movie was and how completely unengaging it actually is.  All the characters are completely unlikable, cartoonish, cliched cardboard cutouts, who do nothing but stupid things.  The action scenes are almost as dull as the long dialogue scenes.

And then we have the finale...the big reveal...like we really care at this point anyway.  Let's just say it's dull, anti-climatic, and like everything else, completely unbelievable.

There are 2 alternate endings, which also suck and an alternate beginning, which is jaw droppingly poor.  There's a bunch of deleted scenes as well, and 1 of them goes on for seriously like 15 minutes. It's horrible, but at least it explains what's missing in the "plot".

Just horrible on every single level and to make matters worse, it's not the kind of horrible that's entertaining.  I don't think there is a single instant of anything enjoyable here, and I honestly mean that.

An epic misfire or monstrous proportions by Wes Craven. A complete embarrassment in writing and film making that beyond any excuses.

Really no reason whatsoever to see this, unless you doubt how bad it really is and need to see for yourself.

Pure Horse Shit - I'd much rather watch Troll 2 eight times in a row than sit through this crapfest again.

But is it worth watching buddy?

So why is it rated R?

It's rated R cause they're a bunch of morons.  The word "fuck" an "fucking" is used quite often.  "Blow Job" is in there.  A number of knife kills, slit throats, mostly not really seen though.

No, it sucks. You don't need to see it for any reason.

It amazes me that after this bomb, execs were shocked that Scream 4 tanked.
It's called using up the "good will" you foster in the past with audiences.
They won't forget if you burn them while cashing in on your name.

I know you're down to watch about anything, Jeff, even if you end up hating most of it, but... did you really think this was going to be any good? I wanted to ask the same thing about Resident Evil: Afterlife but never did for some reason.

I don't know, man. I'll chance something if the response is 50/50 but when it's invariably bad, I don't even consider it. This and Resident Evil: Afterlife really were invariably hated on. I haven't heard a good thing about either one yet.

Rightfully hated on.  They're both abysmal piss poor examples of all that's wrong in movie making.

I'm not implying that Scream 4 was a poor film.
However, this turd didn't foster any good will for Wes Craven's next project.
I think this is partly responsible for the lackluster boxoffice that killed the franchise.

You may be right, Brett. I actually didn't think about it that way, but it doe make sense.

Too bad, but maybe Wes brought it on himself by writing and releasing this fucking abortion.

I couldn't get around the fact that Wes Craven directed this crapfest.
What happened?!

I will always love Serpent and The Rainbow.

Swamp Thing was camp cheese good.

Red Eye knocked it out of the park.

But for every A Nightmare On Elm Street and People Under The Stairs, there's a Deadly Friend...or My Soul (and time) To Take.

************

As for Res 4, a huge step down from Res 3, (which isn't saying a lot), hey, at leasat I saw it for free at my sister's place. Sadly, she is out 20 bucks and she didn't know it...(she's a big-time Milla Jovovich fan) I know, I'm out 90 minutes, but it was a nice time to snooze.

****

Now, I double dare brave souls to sit through fifteen whole minutes of The Big Bang w/ Antonio Bandaras....
