Saw this today with the nephews and nieces. Pretty decent film, actually. Very well written. They saved the cat and then some at the beginning, making sure we got that Ben Stiller's character was a good guy, but it was effective. They worked in a lot of clever humor throughout the script. There are some weak points in the plot where you have to struggle to suspend disbelief, but not a big deal for a movie like this. Eddie Murphy does a good job with his character, but the character was not really fleshed out to be very interesting. Difficult to do, I guess, because there were several characters that had a story to tell, including one by Matthew Broderick, and the villain, Alan Alda.
The trailers, on the other hand, showed that there are some movies on the way that look particularly bad. Oh well.
I saw that one earlier this week. I liked it! There were some things in it that would have made me complain if I was reading the script, but when put together as a final film, I let it slide.
My biggest WTH moment for me was Broderick. He looked 10 years older than he really is and fat too. I don't see that being necessary for his part so it was just a "disappointment" I guess.
Being someone who suffers from vertigo, I especially appreciated the scenes where they were removing the car from the apartment.
This film is not at all an Oscar consideration, but definitely a good bit of fun.
Yeah, I didn't know beforehand Broderick was in the film, and I kept saying to myself, "is that M Broderick?". He was in some movie a few years ago with Danny Devito, some Christmas movie, might have even been a tv movie, and he looked like Ferris Broderick still. I don't know what happened in just a few years.
Stiller does a good job and is perfect for this role. There were several moments when the full theater was laughing out loud, always a good sign.
We had to sit in the front row; talk about vertigo! Felt like we were in that building.
I went early too and to the hearing impaired showing. I have excellent hearing, but there are usually fewer people at those and I like to be alone...besides, I grew up on subtitles so I don't even notice those.
I can sit through a bunch of gore, but I would be lying if I told you I didn't pinch my eyes shut during that scene a couple of times!
