So I am a massive anime fan, mostly because they always manage to have a very original story. Compared to any movie I have ever seen, the storyline just never compares to the storyline of animes. I think its mostly because they have a decent amount of an adult audience that generate views from cartoons with gore and violence (which isn't always a bad thing). So anyways! Hopefully I have made a point! Finally time for the review!

I must admit I had high hopes watching this anime but I suppose after finished it, it was one of the biggest letdowns in the history of cinema! Not really though, but it was still pretty unsatisfying.

Now to start off, here is the best Plot Summary I could find!

"Humans live in the world of Assiah, demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. The humans who can fight these demons are known as exorcists. Rin Okumura is a boy who bears the curse of being Satan's illegitimate son. His foster father sacrificed himself to save him from demons. To avenge his foster father's death as well as to prove himself, Rin decides to follow the path of an exorcist."

So basically, it is about a teenager named Rin who discovers he is Satan's Son and after witnessing his foster father death, he goes out to train as an exorcist to quoting "Kick Satan's Ass!"

SPOILERS

The Good

The best thing about this Anime were the exorcism scenes. They were some of the most original and tense moments I have ever seen on screen. In fact, there should be a movie just dedicated to some badass guy who goes around purging demons.

The characters vary and there is always somebody you can connect to. Blue Exorcist has healthy doses of humour to distract your from the gruesome scenes with the demons and exorcists. Humour is one of the biggest factors in making a good anime. You need it and if there isn't any of it, you will slowly just stop watching it. That is one of the biggest reasons why the big five exist today. The big five being Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon, Yu Gi Yoh and One Piece.

The initial meeting with Satan at the start will keep you watching until the end.

The Bad

MORE SPOILERS! CAREFUL!

The worse thing about Blue Exorcist was the ending!!! Oh my god! Biggest dud ever! I don't want to go into much detail here because I don't want to ruin this mildy enjoyable show but don't expect an ending like Death Note. All I will say is that the ending is very unsatisfying.

This show is filled with fillers even though it only has 25 episodes. I think there might have been about 3 episodes that didn't progress the story at all and another 7 that were filled with an eternal tunnel of nothingness and some story progression.

It didn't know what it was aiming for. From the start it seems like it was going for this action adventure type scenario but by the third episode it is nailed into one place.

Overall!

So the first two episodes were just plain awesome. But after that it went downhill. This had so much potential but it was wasted from the bad progression each episode had to the IMHO dud ending. I would recommend fans of horror to watch this but only if you can stop yourself from clawing your eyes out at the slow story.
