Review of the anime,
Steins;Gate.
To start off this review, this show is a must watch for any scriptwriter or director. Never have I seen such intriguing characters and a storyline with such depth that you feel the protagonist's pain. The direction in this show is absolutely beautiful. It is unqiue. There is no other word that can describe it.
Now! Enough praising! Time for a plot summary!
I found a killer one on the following website but I think it would make this review too long but feel free to check it out if my shortened version of it doesn't make sense.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11770"Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed "mad scientist" who inadvertently creates a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present."
So basically, it is about a young man who creates a time machine that can send text messages to the past and with any time related story, there is some type of paradox involved.
The GoodThere are so many thing that have been done right so let me begin by saying this.
The characters have so much depth in this anime that it feels like they could be real. From Rintaro Okabe and to other less important characters like his landlord Mr. Braun, there is always something about them that is important to the story. So what I am trying to say is that you feel genuine emotion for these cartoon characters. Their back story is told as the story progresses and it doesn't get lost in the infinite amount of fillers found in other animes. Which brings me to my second point.
This is the tightest story I have ever digested. It gets straight to the point without any "Bullshit" This is one of the best things about this anime. It doesn't stray away from the main story by creating other scenarios to progress it. Everything is related to the progression which is IMHO essential for any time travel story or any story at all.
Like I said before, this show has some of the best direction I have ever seen. The scenes are tense and shown in such a way that you always focus on the show and never wander off into your own little day dream, which for me happens frequently with bad shows. The time sequences are also perfect. I felt like this was meant to be a real TV show but there weren't enough funds so they must have made the anime instead.
The humour in this show is perfect. The jokes are funny but at the same time not cheesy. They flow well in the conversations and they manage to keep you engaged until the story really kicks in midway through this anime. Which brings me to my next point!
When the story does kick in, it really does kick in. Think of the times you have been "Mind Trucked" in movies, add them together and then times them by 2.
This is the best written show I have ever watched. Every scriptwriter has to watch this.
There are a lot of good aspects to this show but the review is getting too long to mention them all!
The BadTruth is, this show doesn't have so much bad. I think the biggest issue it faces is that it took the road of an anime which has these cheesy scenes common in any Light Novel or Manga. There aren't much, but they are still there.
***SPOILER START***Not really spoilers but some people might see it as that. The ending compared to everything else wasn't as great. It was good, but could have been better. The ending was fast but not rushed. I would have liked it to be longer but what can you do!
***SPOILER END***Overall! This show was perfect. A great ride through the journey of time and the story of Rintaro Okabe.
I strongly recommend that everybody here should watch this. I think Youtube might have a decent quality version but a quick search on Google for the first episode couldn't hurt anybody. If anybody watches this, you will see what I mean. There isn't an English Dub, just Japanese subs and I wouldn't recommend watching a dub if there was one.
Hopefully the choice of the Steins;Gate is enough for people to watch this
