What a flick... On netflix no less.   Never heard of it until a week ago when I put it in my Q... watched it tonight and, for the most part, it knocked it out of the park for me.

I pretty much despise Jeremy Piven, but even he turned out a fantastic performance here.  The standout, an amazing Thomas Jane.  Even Rob Lowe was seemingly struggling to keep up at times.  Tho, he was great too.

4 dudes get together every year, like clockwork, to bond, relive their glory days and be amongst like minded people with the same general problems that haunt them all.

The movie dives deep, deep into each man's personal demons as they take a week long vacation at a beautiful beach front home, where they do copious amounts of drugs, drink copious amounts of blurred out labled booze and party...  Things take a turn for the worst around day 3 when one of the group decided to kill himself after a night of realization.

This is where the 5th main character is introduced... A note, signed by each 25 years prior- in their own blood mind you.

From here the note, the mysterious note, what does it say?  Why does it affect these men so much?  It leaves you in waiting all the way to the very last shot of the film.  I really felt for all of these characters... They all did fantastic.  Thomas Jane is superb.  The music is laced with some of my vert favorite artist.

I'd say the only part I didn't fully invest in was the idiotic, overly concerned, compassionate cop.  She just oversold the whole role and it got real cheesy every time she popped her head around the house to check on these guys.

other than that, and one other stupid decision these guys make on property they do not own... Bang up movie.  Got netflix, boot it up and watch it.

Wrote this on my phone, forgive the typos.

I haven't heard about this movie until about a week ago, either, when somebody told me about it.  They said it was awesome, but he's a huge Jeremy Piven fan, so I figured he was being biased.  (I'm not very into Piven, either.  I do like him, but more in the way of a late night talk show host than an actor.)

I did go online to watch the trailer a couple days ago, and it does look like a movie I'd really enjoy.  (Although it does have a 'Very Bad Things' vibe.)

I have it q'd up, now I just need the time.

(And now, thanks to your review, Balt, I'll watch it before 'Melancholia'.)
