What good are choices if they're all bad?

This is actually a feature that was done by a contact of mine on a budget of roughly $50,000 that was released last year.

It deals with a single father who's forced to raise his academically-challenged son while attempting to earn a degree while he hopes to one day be the owner and manager of the pet store he works in. That is, until a woman who escaped from a violent man at a bar is rescued and "taken in" by his son. The three of them form a close bond however the woman is concealing a dark secret.

There's nothing groundbreaking here. Some of the acting is wooden, some of the dialogue scenes go on too long but when it's good, it's really good. There's a couple really clever moments that had me chuckling quite a bit.

I think the director (also writer, actor among other things), Koran Dunbar, could have cut about twenty minutes from the film but it had a great sequence that, ironically enough, takes place in Philadelphia. Great acting and writing all around and the highlight of the movie for me.

All things considered, it's a solid effort from a first time feature director and one I think is worth seeing.

7/10.
