This was really well done. It looked spectacular, was well acted and it was probably a good thing that Jackie Robinson was played by a relative unknown. Harrison Ford played a role that wasn't himself, and overall look of the film is impressive.

I'm interested to see if someone will see this movie that doesn't know a lot about Jackie Robinson and see what their impression is. Here's where I'm torn: I really didn't learn or see much I didn't already know. For someone that doesn't know the story of his signing and his rookie seaosn, the impact of it may be greater.

As good as the movie was, I couldn't help but wonder what Spike Lee's version would have looked like...as heavy handed as it would have likely been.

I did appreciate the fact that they fictionalized little. They even got a lot of little details right, down the hour-glass egg timer in Red Barber's broadcast booth (John C. McGinley is great as Red by the way) and look the game programs in Brooklyn (I inherited a trunk from my grandfather and he kept game prorgrams from games he went to in New York, Brooklyn and other places...he even kept score...so I own several from that era).

I thought the movie was nice, but I have to add, the theater I saw it in was packed and the reaction of the crowd at the end was vocal...the loudest I've heard in a long time.

I've never been a big fan of baseball, but I really wanted to check this out since I first heard of it, more because of the humanity story behind it if anything.

When you said the reaction of the crowd at the end was vocal, do you mean a good, cheering vocal?  Or a bad booing vocal that they didn't like it?

It was applause with cheers and I don't think I've heard that positive of a response since I was a kid and saw Return of the Jedi in a theater.

I saw the movie in the Kansas City area and they have a strong tie historically to Jackie Robinson. They had a huge premiere for it when it opened about a month ago so you'd expect that reaction then. This was several weeks later and I have to add the audience was all over the place in age range and genders...somthing I didn't expect.
