I didn't hate the film, but it was an improvement over the first film. Since the box office (and critic) trajectory is up, I expect a third movie within a year or so. I don't know if Frank Grillo will return, but that New Anti-Purge resistance group looks ripe to explore further. If I had any complaint about Purge 2, it's the jab at The Absurdity of The Rich. An auction...really? If some joker outbid me I'd find the nearest steak knife and carve up that sucker like a roast. (It's The Purge, after all)

The Purge does have a good hook. I didn't know how far they could take it, because it's harder making a horror scary the larger you make the arena in which it takes place, if that makes sense. Didn't care for the first one too much. I'd have to agree the second is better, it added elements from the action genre which spruced things up. It takes the "hook" I was speaking of to a logical conclusion however again lose a little bit of the horror element, IMO (add some action in place off), especially if you have them cutting scenes named "rape corner." One thing this story had that the other probably didn't if I recall correctly is a main character who has something to learn, and does when he doesn't take the life of the man who killed his son, which something horror movies lacks.

Commodus: But the Emperor Claudius knew that they were up to something. He knew they were busy little bees. And one night he sat down with one of them and he looked at her and he said, "Tell me what you have been doing, busy little bee..."

Really enjoyed this one. It left me wanting more from the Purge Universe.

Maybe not great art, but reminds me of the Saw films. Just very enjoyable and addictive to watch.

99% of films these days bore me. This one didn't.

I liked this one better than the first one. The first one was a little hard to believe, IMO.

This one was half way there. This concept sells itself. People will keep coming back... which means it's not so much of a gamble on the investment, which hopefully means we'll get something close to greatness next time. I really want to see something good come from this.
