Finding an unknown decent movie streaming on Netflix is tough...finding a great one is almost impossible.  Thank God for The Den.

Wow, what a fucking kickass, unconventional, well put together little movie this is.

What we have here probably is classified as a Found Footage horror thriller, but it's so much more.  All the footage in the movie is shot as if it's taken from cell phones, computer cams, security cams, or other "fixed" camera lenses.  Some is hard to believe, but once you settle in, you'll buy into it with an open mind.

This one ain't for everyone.  It will be polarizing, and many will hate it just for the way it's filmed and presented, while others won't be able to take the brutality on display.  But if you're the type that can take it, who appreciates something out of the box, the payoff here is quite amazing, and I'm surprised to be saying this, but the last 20 minutes or so are some of the most powerful I can recall.

This reminds me of another flick I fell in love with from Netflix, called Megan is Missing from 2011, which had a similar theme, delivery, and a gut wrenching finale.  The Den is more polished and has alot more going on, but shares in MIM's delivery, via internet cams and the like.

I tip my hat to writer/director Zachary Donohue for a ballsy, pull no punches approach and attitude.  Can't wait to see what he does next.

I also have to throw out some HUGE Kudos to lead actress Melanie Papalia, who really shines here in every way imaginable.  This cutie has real acting chops and ran the gamut dsiplaying every emotion in a completely real and believable manner.  Great performance!

I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm not going to say much about what takes place.  I will say that you need to stay with it.  The payoff here is quite shocking, completely unexpected, and hits like the fucking kick of a mule on steroids.

Highly recommended for horror/slasher fans who can stomach hard core brutality played for keeps.

I thought this movie was quite dull. Gimmick movies like this are usually hard to maintain. This was a 75 min movie that felt like a 2 and a half hour one.
