Anyone caught this indie sci-fi film?

Strange little film. Kind of an awkward tone, combining a Goonies style vibe with violence, and let down by a weak Deus Ex Machina ending that undermined the struggles of the characters, it was still a lot of fun.

If they'd have gone either harder or softer in tone, and they'd let the characters solve their own problems, this could have been a bit of a classic I reckon, but instead it was a fun, near miss.

Yeah! Definitely second this recommendation.

It's like you say, Rick -- awkward tone, disappointing ending. Kind of a rocky start, too.

But a bunch of neat ideas, some genuinely cool scenes, and above all a movie that feels like a real kid's movie, with adventure, big concepts, and real danger.

Glad someone else caught it.

I agree, it really shined when it was firmly in kid's movie territory. The 'Furbie' kid, or whatever he called was particularly good.
