Here's the dealio. Stay away from this site. It's not legit as far as publishing goes. If buying your own poems sounds like your cup of tea then be my guest.
I have three poems on the site. I had more but two disappeared (seems fishy)
All three of them are being "considered." Now this would be fine and dandy if the one of those wasn't gibberish, literal random keyboard strokes. I suspect they include any and all poems and then sell them back in an anthology to you which cost you. Yes it cost you, 50 bucks.
That's right, half a c note. If that doesn't scream scam, I don't know what does.

This was actually discussed a year or two ago. One guy came on the boards and bragged about being a winner in some National Poetry Society and had his poems published in their anthology. The trick to it is that you have buy the anthology.
Everyone who bought the anthology were winners, coincidentally.

Just thought I'd give people a heads up. Yeah the idea of being published is cool, but if the only people buying it is the writers, then that just is not right. |

This is essentially vanity publishing. Only the writers don't know it.

Yeah and vanity publishing gets you no where. I'm just going to work on submitting my work to places that actually publish and don't just sell back to the writers. |

I had an instructor in my college days who wrote and self-published a book of poetry based on historical events in Canada. The book didn't sell and she ended up using them for a poetry class she taught. I imagine she sold a lot of the books this way.

Self Publishing is more legit then poetry.com. At least the ambition of publishing is to sell to potential readers and not back to the poet. |

Yeah I was taken by these people when I was 16. Back then I didn't question anything, I was just so glad to have been 'picked' by them.
And now they keep sending me mails about their annual convention. |

I'm on the same boat as Death Monkey. The dick heads won't leave me alone. i started a thread about this months ago and since then the amount of junk mail i am getting from them is unbelievable. NEVER send a poem to poetry.com.

This isn't the first time and this isn't the first place I was warned about this outfit. If I was desperate to get my poems published, I could always write them on toilet paper, duct tape it together, and throw a huge publishing party afterwards where everybody would stare at me and laugh their asses off. |

Sorry I didn't get in on this earlier. Death Monkey speaks truth. When I was in high school, I sent in...I think it was...three poems to this type of a racket and while they informed me they decided to pass on one, they seemed to think the others (one I liked, one I thought was crap) were the most excellent things they'd ever read. I never did buy an anthology, but I remember getting junk mail for years requesting I buy future volumes I hadn't even sent in submissions for. I think I had to move to finally shake them. |

With all the great poems we have stored on this board, we could publish our own Anthology. |
