I know this isn't recent.

This is one of those scripts that pulled the emotion out of me. I've seen the movie but it still was quite vivid on the page and sparse in it's language.

The Fountain by Aronofsky.

A doctor trying to find a way  to cure his wife's disease, stumbles upon the fountain of youth.
