This is a must see for any writer.
Terrific satirical look at the topsy turvy world of Hollywood, with a stellar performance from Robert De Niro.
Anyone seen it? What did you think?
Personally, I think this is one of the best films of last year, and criminally underrated.

I’ve seen it. I really liked it. I’m not sure I agree with it being one of the best films from last year or criminally underrated but I do agree that it’s a film that probably anyone seriously interested in working in the film industry will want to check out. It’s terrific, perhaps a bit too “insider” for someone just looking for a good movie but for anyone who’s really into films, whether film buff or aspiring member of the industry, it’s a very good film and so true on so many levels. For a movie that's only conflict is whether a dog gets killed in a film or whether Bruce Willis will shave his beard or not, its a pretty good movie. I liked it.

I've been meaning to see this, but haven't gotten around to it.
You know what else is a must-see for any writer? "The TV Set"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473709/ Love that movie.
On a side note, these two films remind me of the Hollywood mantra I keep running into with my scripts:
"Hollywood doesn't like movies about filmmaking"
or
"People don't like to watch movies about filmmaking"
And yet, they get made.

Glad to see others liked this. Yeah, I think its audience is pretty small, yet its deftness appealed to my tastes i.e. one of my favourites of last year. You definitely should see it, Dressel. Will try and find of a copy of your suggestion. Andrew

Andrew, I admire the effort from the filmmakers and completely see why an A list actor like "Bob D" was attracted to this film, given that it goes against a cardinal rule of filmmaking, (offing a dog, in a graffic way) which I also tried to exploit in a script of mine, but when it comes down to the actual story, I thought it fell flat. They went back to "offing" the dog multiple times, but I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters in the film. It's one of those flicks that I wondered why nobody gave a damn about (box office wise), given the star power of the leads, but once I rented it all sunk in and the lack of enthusiasm finally made sense. I wondered why it barely passed the theatrical release and made it to DVD. it serves as a tool for why "shock tactics" won't save a script and why story triumphs all. Nate
