Ever since Watchmen I thought that guy would be perfect for Freddy but is this real cause the voice and make-up did not look all that great. He sounded like it was a western.
Well, at least it doesn't look like COMPLETE crap. But all potential this movie had of being scary has been wasted entirely. Freddy as a victim is just flat-out pathetic. Even if he turns out he was guilty, he is still being portrayed as a sissy little bitch the trailer.
The intro of Freddy vs. Jason was a lot better, creepier, and engaging than this entire trailer.
As for Haley, his make-up sucks ass and his performance will be hindered by it. No way around it.
Katie Cassidy can't act for shit and that douche from Haunting and Conneticut is just as bad. Things really don't look too good.
Atmosphere-wise, it looks passable. Better than the sequels, at least. Too bad Freddy is a pansy here.
I was kind of excited when I heard Jackie Earle Haley was playing Freddy but judging from the end of the trailer, it seems like he's just trying to emulate Robert Englund rather than come up with his own interpretation which would be extremely disappointing; Haley's a talented actor and Englund's Freddy just can be duplicated. The makeup looks okay. It's really dark so I can't really say. Everything else looks about the same as every other remake except for Rob Zombie's Halloween movies. There's also some really disconcerting rumors floating around about changing Freddy's backstory. I'm not going to view them as fact but so far, this doesn't seem to have as much going for it as I thought.
Yeah, the implication from the trailer that Freddy is a hapless victim will flat out RUIN the whole foundation. In the original, the thing is that he DID kill the children in the neighborhood. He was 100% guilty and got off on a technicality. The parents tracked him down and killed him, just like real ones would. He was evil before he died and just got worse after they killed him. That's the premise. If they make him a victim of mistaken identity or some such crap as that, it's all over, no matter how scary they attempt to make him.
On another note, it was nice to see them duplicate some of the original scares in the reimagining.
Yeah, in the script (which I've read, and actually it's not that bad) there is a lingering question of whether Freddy did do what he's been accused of or not, and maybe he's attacking to get revenge for his undeserved lynching...

...turns out he's not. He's guilty. There's a good line in the script where Nancy finally realises the truth, and says, "He's not after us because we lied. He's after us because we told."
I don't think this remake needs to exist at all, but I'll watch it when it's released with an open mind.
I couldn't disagree more. I've always said that this is one film that needed a remake. The original is very effects driven, and a lot of those effects simply don't hold up. With today's technology they can do wonders with Freddy's dream world scenes. The trailer looks pretty neat and I like the whole "was he innocent" approach. I have the script, but have yet to read it. Maybe I will tonight...

~Zack~
Frankly once he dies and becomes a bad guy who cares if he was innocent? Jason might have been innocent once too but why do I care about that when his main goal is to kill kill kill dumb teenagers?
The thing that hurt Halloween is trying to humanize MM and make viewers care. The fact that they always lose and can't even kill helpless girls makes them poor characters to begin with now we have to care about them as people? Come on.
