This looks really interesting. At first, it looks like some bad, low budget zombie film, but throughout the trailer, it looked like it could really have potential. I'm not just saying this because I'm a zombie fanatic, but since it's set in a country that's not America or Spain or France or any familiar place, but rather a country that were not so familiar with when it comes to zombie films, I feel as though it gives a more eerie sense to the entire movie. That's how I felt with Lucio Fulci's "Zombie" since it was set on an island occupied by villagers and not an entire city. I can see this movie being pretty creepy and suspenseful, and from the trailer, it seems as though it can also be quite realistic, which is what makes zombie movies really scary when you know how to make it feel real.
But that's just me, and I want to give this one a look whenever it's available. Thanks for sharing, Zack.
What I got from this trailer--and I could be wrong--was that the main characters are out to save and rebuild civilization, as opposed to six or eight people trying to survive. This makes a nice change in zombie stories.
I just watched another trailer for this movie and it looks like it's highly inspired by Lucio Fulci's "Zombie". If it's anything like that, then I'm definitely seeing it. Zombie creeped me out!
According to Metacritic, "The Dead" was released theatrically here last weekend. However, I can't find any boxoffice results, so I can only assume it fell through.
I got my grubby little hands on a BluRay of the film last week. And I have to say, I was really impressed with the production. The Hand brothers really put together a pretty decent film.
The grainy 35mm film stock with desolate landscapes looks suburb. And we're loaded with old school Romero zombies. All old school rules.
The CG effects are a little nagging in hi-def, but that's nothing new. There's something very creepy about all those day time desert zombies. This is slow burn film and our heroes are always on the move.
The story is very standard, this is a mood piece and it works pretty often. The pacing is a bit languid at times, but it always pulled me back in. Certainly one of the most effective back to basics zombie flicks I've seen in a while. I was really taken with how effective the geography change helped the film.
