The regular deadline for Shriekfest is right around the corner, boys and ghouls...

Shriekfest is a sci-fi/horror film festival that's been running a screenplay competition for some time now.  It's very well organized and the organizers get back to you when you e-mail them a question.

Regular deadline is May 1st.  For more information, click here!

Thanks Phil - I think I may have a look at this. If I recall it accepts shorts which is all I would have.

They're good people. I can vouch for them as well. Kind of curious on why they didn't do an early deadline.

Mike, Not Even Death didn't win at Shriekfest.  It was at Gimme Credit.  And they're not running that competition anymore.

And, AFAIK, it's not available online for viewing.  Last year, it became part of some zombie compilation DVD.

I've entered too. I've heard good things about this competition from here and on other websites.

I've been tempted to enter this for a few years but I'm a bit of skin flint, meaning I don't want to pay lol.  I am thinking of entering the short section though.

Gonna toss a short into this. I see they now take scripts via Email. While this may be convenient, I'm still going old school and printing it out and mailing it. It's one thing to read a script online, but to have one in your hands... just feels more genuine to me.

This was in the confirmation email from Shriekfest.

If you submitted a hard copy of your screenplay, please email us an electronic version, this helps with distribution to the judges. Email back with the title and EMAIL COPY in the subject line. Thank you!

I don't think there is much point in sending a hard copy at all. Email is much easier for me anyway but it's just a heads up for anyone who likes to go the other route.

Shriekfest is great. One of my short scripts placed in the semi-finals in 2011. And Denise, the lady who runs the festival, is a wonderfully nice person. I'd definitely like to submit something this year to see how it does.

Andrew, thanks man but I was thinking of entering an old short, maybe 'The Chocolatier' as I spent a lot of time on that.  I hope to have a found footage horror feature written by nest year to enter, as they seem to have a good chance of being successful...ha, how arrogant does that sound?  Like by writing a specific script will guarantee success lol.

Damn. Damn damn. Looks as though I printed out my short and made it look all pretty for no reason. I will donate them to the local nursery school for a nap time reading. Muha ha ha -- cough, cough.

Denise e-mailed me today, confirming that she received my entry.  She mentioned my past entries as well.

Shriekfest has always been great at keeping the entrants informed regarding the statuses.  Makes it one of the better competitions out there.
