Didn't give this a thumbs up or down. Surprised nobody else has brought this up. It was raved about at the major film festivals.

I will be the first to admit I was amazed as a child by what these trainers could do with an orca whale. That is Americana at its best. But, that's not the reason to get pissered about it. Go watch The Cove, a truly far tragic documentary that will make you punch out your TV screen.

Not to mention the filmakers were far more ingenious about capturing footage nobody in Japan ever wanted seen.

I just don't take pleasure in films that show what a truly shitty species we are. Here we are again taking in huge beasts that have no business in captivity.

Take your kids to the Dolphin/whale show now because it will be gone in an instant...

Just watched this.

Not bad. The subject matter is disturbing and the message is strong and direct. The inclusion of the actual attack videos was a bold choice and quite chilling to watch and there's definitely a lot of emotion in the interviews. As an overall documentary though, I thought it was sort of flat and stiff. It was very raw and no holds barred, which is commendable, but something was missing. I can't put my figure on it for some reason.

Perhaps it's just a little too straightforward. If you know anything about orcas in captivity, there's not much here that will shock or surprise you and little by way of insight. Then again, maybe it's one of those films for the people who are uninformed and/or a little naive and intended to spread the word. I suppose you need films like that from time to time.

Either way, worth a rent, at least.

Just watched this.  Maybe I am uniformed, but maybe I choose not to see or know what i don't want to...not sure, but for me, this was very eye opening, engaging, and emotional, even.

I enjoyed it on every level and thought it was a ballsy film that pulled no punches and got its message across loud and clear.

You'd never think a pirate could be wise. I'd also like to think we're not a shitty species per se. I'd like to think some of us are all right. Or at least passable. Like me, for instance. We will not speak of that time I was a plumber. That was bad. I'm never doing that again. Promise.

This is a fine documentary. And not for the squeamish. Corporates are often up to no good. But the bastards in this are unbelievable.

All this checks out too.

For those interested in good documentaries and animal rights and just common decency will be enthralled. I hope this film helps to stop, or at the very least change, what happens to these creatures. And those who work with them.

Moving, scary, informative and often heartwrenching.
