Tusk is one weird ass movie. And I don't mean the plot, though that's weird too. Everything is weird. The way it is told. The way it was cast. The odd mix of humor and horror. And a weird performance by a hollywood superstar that goes uncredited.

The plot is simple. An american man (Justin Long) is abducted by a crazy old guy (The brilliant Michael Parks) who wants to surgically transform him into a walrus. Yep. That's the plot. And yes, this movie completely delivers on its weird premise. And then some. This is balls out film-making at it's weirdest. Every time you think director Kevin Smith is going to start to pull up, he pulls the rug out from under you and takes this odd film even further.

I really don't want to spoil too much. All I will say is that if you are looking for something VERY different. Here ya go. I highly recommend you go into this with a case of beer(or whatever your preference) and a group of friends that don't know what the film is about.

If I knew this was the plot of the movie, I would have watched it by now. Instead I remember reading it was about a guy who has a podcast and gets lost in the woods.

Ugh, I hate this movie. But I love talking about how much I hate this movie. And in a way, that's kind of a success in itself. Tusk got people talking.

This isn't a good bad movie. It's a bad bad movie. It's pretentious, self serving, and poorly directed. Kevin Smith is a f ucking hack and this movie proves it. Any shred of talent he once had is long gone. Apparently Smith now makes movies "for himself" and it's a disservice to everyone.

So the idea for Tusk is weird, twisted, and fun. But the execution is awful. Smith mixes horror genres and the film starts to feel disjointed. Take the actual walrus suit for example (spoiler alert, Long becomes a walrus...duh). The costume itself is right out of an 80's horror film like Basket Case. But that's not the feel of the movie.

But the worst part, by far, is Johnny Depp. Yep, he's in this movie. And I'm doing you all a huge favor by telling you now. His character is idiotic and a total waste of screen time (plus Depp can't do a Canadian French accent for s hit). Smith draws out his scenes to the point where he feels tedious. And word on the street is that his next movie will prominently feature Depp's character.

This movie is just...sad. If you still think jokes about Canada are funny, then you might enjoy it. Just do us all a favor and retire from screenwriting if you do.

I have to agree with just about everything albinopenguin said. This movie was horrible.

I don't know what happened to Kevin Smith. His first four movies were pretty good. I really liked DOGMA. But after he did that terribly unfunny "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" movie it all went to hell. Clerks 2 was OK, the rest have been just bad.

Guess I'm easily entertained. But I do agree that this is not a good movie. But I must argue that this is a great bad movie. And I just loved how bat shit weird it got. And Depp didn't both me as much as he seems to bother everyone else. The one thing that DID irk me though was the "Kill Bill Kid" video at the start. It wasn't funny and the cgi was SOOOOO bad.

Oh that video at the beginning was the god damn worst. So bad that I was over the film by that point. Seriously, SNL has had better amputations than that. And the video makes no f ucking sense. Why would people be laughing at that? Why not just have the dude stab himself in the foot instead? It makes the follow up joke way more funnier that way.

Also, Dogma is easily Smith's best movie. But that Smith is gone now and we're left with an asshole who loves podcasting a little too much.

That being said, Zack, I think you have some good advice. Grab some beers and some buds (who aren't filmmakers) and see the film...just so you can talk shit on it later. I don't regret seeing the film.

Exactly. I still can't believe some of what I saw. The "Walrus fight" at the end was crazy weird.

Honestly, I thought the Walrus fight was the best part of the movie. I just wish that it wasn't so tame. If you're going to have a walrus fight, then go balls deep.
