Saw this in a few news sources so wrote to Elba's company to get details.
They sent me back the entry form which has all the details on, see below.
If anyone wants a copy of the PDF entry form just let me know.
ENTRY CRITERIA Green Door Pictures and Lionsgate UK have teamed up to launch a competition to find emerging UK writing talent in returnable drama series for the contemporary UK and international market. Our aim is to discover UK resident writers who are yet to have their break in writing their own original material for broadcast. Not necessarily new writers, but new television voices. Our main requirement is that the Entrant writer is able to demonstrate an understanding of how to construct and deliver an outstanding script for a returnable drama series.
Who can enter? Category A: Represented and unrepresented writers who already have professional writing credits in television (including online credits for web series running at a minimum of 30 minutes per episode), but whose original series, mini-series or stand-alone ideas have not been produced or broadcast by a UK broadcaster (including online). These can include ideas previously picked up by a production company or broadcaster for development that did not get commissioned to production (as long as the option no longer stands). Category B: Represented and unrepresented writers, possibly with a background in theatre, short form content or film, but who have no UK broadcast credits (including online, 30 minutes per episode or over) and are looking for an opportunity to showcase their excellent work. Please note it is essential that entrants in this category provide a second writing sample (not in competition and not necessarily a TV sample) and a supporting reference from a recognised industry professional. This reference should be someone actively working in the television industry, please refer to Required Entry Materials point 6 for further information.
Required Entry Materials: 1. Pilot script for returnable Drama series • The requirement is for the submitted script to be beyond initial draft stages (i.e. ready to be heard by the great and good of the TV industry!) • The script should be the pilot episode for a returnable television drama series running between 4 and 10 episodes • Script must fit a format for a 1-hour slot (between 50 and 70 pages in length) • The script and series bible must contain a footer on each and every page with a page number and title of the series. The writer’s name and personal details should only be visible on the Application Form and title page of the script; this is to help facilitate a ‘blind read’ in the initial judging stages. Green Door will redact names from title pages and not give Readers access to Application Forms and/or the Entrant’s name and personal details • The document must be submitted as a PDF file and no larger than 3MB
2. Series Bible To include: • Title, logline and short synopsis (50 words maximum) • Episode breakdowns for the first season, including the pilot (maximum of 100 words per episode) • Character breakdowns of featured characters (maximum of 50 words per character) • A short overview of ideas for further seasons (maximum of 100 words), including genre and suggested target audience • This document should be a maximum of 3 A4 pages and submitted as a PDF file no larger than 3MB • Please note this document should NOT include images, casting suggestions or any additional information we have not requested 3. CV • 1-2 pages maximum and submitted as a Word or PDF file 4. Application Form • Attached form fully completed 5. Second writing sample • Only applicable to Category B Entrants • Not restricted to a TV sample but must be for stage or screen • This document should be a maximum of a feature film length and submitted as a PDF file no larger than 3MB.
6. Industry reference • Only applicable to Category B Entrants • This reference should be directly commenting on the ability to write for screen • Reference should be submitted with referee's knowledge granting Green Door the permission to contact referee on request • This reference should be someone actively working in the entertainment industry for example but not limited to: o Agent o Producer o Director o Broadcaster o Established TV, stage or film writer. o Representative from recognised funding body, educational establishment or training scheme in relation to a screen-writing course/qualification/initiative. Please note: The Competition will close at 5pm GMT on Monday 8th August 2016. Finalists should bear in mind the limitations of staging a rehearsed reading of the Finalists scripts at the Live Event, in particular the limited cast numbers, currently anticipated to be no more than 6-8 actors to undertake all roles. Any industry professionals wishing to put forward a writer/writing team for consideration may contact Green Door direct prior to the Competition close date but the writer will, nevertheless, be required to complete and submit the Application Form themselves. See full Terms and Conditions for further details of entry
