Had to spend some time horizontal lately, so I watched some movies for a change.

This one has Taylor Sheridan, I'm a HUGE fan, directing and co-writing the script. Must be good was my thinking.

It also has Angelina Jolie, not a big fan, but she's an A-list actress and they usually don't sign up for crap movies.

Logline/mini synopsis:
Still reeling from the loss of three lives, Hannah is a smoke jumper who's perched in a watchtower high above the Montana wilderness. She soon encounters Connor, a skittish boy who's bloodied, traumatized and on the run in the remote forest. As Hannah tries to bring him to safety, she's unaware of the real dangers to follow: two relentless killers hunting Connor, and a fiery blaze consuming everything in its path.

I'm not a great, or even decent, in fact quite crappy reviewer, so this will be short.

So, I'm not sure what I expected here, but I super loved Hell Or High Water, Sicario 1 and 2. What I got was nothing like those at all. This one felt like a TV movie at best. It was like all the ingredients for a great movie was there, but it just couldn't shake that TV movie feel. It felt very cliche' IMHO.

Anyone else seen it?

I watched it. Really loved the Sicario movies. This one isn't as good. But not bad. Solid flick with some pretty fun action scenes.

I agree Pia, and was perhaps more disappointed because it was Sheridan, I think I expected something a little more elevated and this just felt run of the mill.

Not bad, and had its moments in some of the action scenes, but didn't stand out for me.

I tried to watch it and couldn't get past the idea of a stick-figure woman (not being sexist, just a realist) being on a wildfire crew. I've known a lot of women that have done that work through the years and Jolie would have been a crushed smoking ember on day one. Seriously? They couldn't find an A-list actress that could at least resemble a wildfire fighter?!

Not going to mention the lightning scene and her jumping off the tower. What total crap.

I found the movie to be very bland. So much so that I can't remember much about it since watching it about a week or so ago.

around the same time, I watched another action/thriller called Nobody (from the guy who wrote the John Wick movies) which was much more entertaining

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it
