you just register i believe, which kind of contradicts the "exclusiveness" of the email i got. i was kind of excited when i got an email but i didn't know so did everyone else, haha, i should have known! the site seems a little fishy right now but i think it could be something great over time, it's got some good features i like only showing 45% of my screenplay and how people can give it a rating.
It's not open at the moment. I just sent a request for an invite to see what it's all about, but it's definitely in closed beta right now so I may not get one. From what I gather, the people getting invites are those who have posted work recently.
After only one day, I received a message from Circalit:
"An anonymous Circalit member has just left a rating for your screenplay 'My Angel'
Their average rating was 9.2/10.
Here is the score they gave for each of the rating categories:
- Concept: 9/10
- Story: 10/10
- Characters: 9/10
- Structure: 9/10
- Dialogue: 9/10
They also wrote the following comments/feedback for your screenplay:
'I thought this was a beautifully written, well- thought out story. I really like the concept and you went about it in a really unique way. Characters we\'re great and the dialogue spot on. I\'m going to give it another read and I\'ll post any further comments on your wall, but i just wanted to write this before i forget '"
I only posted 40 pages, but the feedback sounds quite cookie... It could fit to any script and there's not one direct quote to my story... Is it some kind of hook?
Well, I don't know. Maybe I'm just too suspicious???
Michel
Sounds cookie to me, and 9.2 is an absurd score for ANY script.
I didn't get an invite! but i managed to get myself onto the site It does look premature (probs why its still closed to public), but i like that screenplays can't just be copied and downloaded by anyone, and that writers have control of who views them. Like all these things time will tell - but its free so no complaints!
Believe it or not I also received an e-mail from Circalit. I was a little curious of how I selected to be sent an e-mail concerning this new site. Now I see virtually everyone was sent one. I did join, however, but I have not received any rating as of yet on the one script I posted. So as of yet I can't say anything good or bad about the site. Marvin.
I have just read one of the tops rated scripts on circalit and it was far from what other people say it is. Good story line, well written, blah blah blah...in truth it wasn't terribly bad, but the the action and dialogue was clunky in many parts , plus the writer started every action sentence with she this or she that. I have yet to see a comment with the script title or anything from the script in it.
I've even seen good comments on scripts with terrible formatting and scripts that only show the title page and block out the story.
Right now my will for being a member of this site is faultering and I'm not being bitter because my script has no reads yet, from the other comments I see I doubt I'm missing out on much, may as well replace the comment tab with a checkmark and an "X" because they seem to be worth the same.
I signed up for this last week, and figured I'd chime in here with my thoughts on it so far, which is that it's pretty much Triggerstreet light.
Scripts are ranked based on some formula consisting of the number of fans, and I guess comments received. Can't be too sure how it works, but my script got a few fans and a review that consisted of "Hilarious!" and now it's the # 2 rated script on the site.
There's no differential between shorts and features, they're all lumped together and ranked accordingly.
The highest rated script at the end of the month gets a 3-5 page analysis from The Script Factory, and apparently production consideration. I think this makes it hard to not recruit your buddies to sign up and become a fan of your script.
I don't know, if you wanna check it out, check it out, but since there's not much feedback to get there, the only benefit would be to see if my fanbase theory is correct. And that's not a benefit to anyone but me unless we all banded together on a monthly basis.
I "debuted" at #s 3 and 4 after Alffy and Craig posted reviews. I've slid steadily down the top 20 ever since.
This site is a bit too facebooky for me. What's to prevent anyone from getting their friends to pad their stats with tens and/or sabotaging the top scripts at the last minute?
I suppose we can form a coalition here to catapult one pre-chosen SS member to the top of the charts each month, thereby gaining him/her the free coverage... ?
