Here is the coolest idea for a slasher that I will never, ever use:

Set it in a nursing home, with old people.  But don't do a "Bubba Ho Tep" with it.  Play it straight.  Not for laughs.  Could be really chilling stuff if you do it right.

The title should be "Expiration Date".

If anybody writes this I gaurantee that lots of people will read it.

Something like this?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071617/

Homebodies (1974)

A group of pensioners fight back when their building is threatened to be torn down.

I remember seeing this a loooooooong time ago, and thought it was pretty interesting.  The nursing home setting would make a nice change, and it could be a cool story, especially when old Mrs. Farmer drowns some poor orderly in the applesauce she's been collecting for the past few months because he ended TV time 5 minutes early.

Or here's an idea that no one ever uses. Begin by writing a straight drama. Work out the characters, give it a great setup and premise, and then pull the rug out by turning it into a slasher. Well-rounded characters and situations are the weakest link of the entire slasher genre. Imagine: not only are the kills graphic, but you cared when the character died. You felt the pain of the other when their chum died. Someday, perhaps...

That's why they call them "Flicks"  if you had a great story line and timeless characters it would no longer be a flick.  I'm all for the developing of good story lines and characters and not just a endless stream of gore and death and violence.

the most obvious place to do a slasher flick like this is either in the dessert, in the woods, on a ship (in space or at sea) what do you/would find most intriguing???

sorry if someone already made a comment like this... but i read this and i become so confused i blacked out (not really)... but how the hell are any of these places (other than in the woods because that's been DONE so much) obvious places to do a slasher flick? desert (dessert is the sweet stuff... it has 2 s's because you always want seconds... remember? second grade?)... and did you actually think to yourself "i wanna write a slasher flick... hmmm.... space ship, or boat... space ship... boat"

if you have an original story idea that has a reason for it taking place on a ship and you use that reason the whole time then please do that... but if it just think it'll be neat to plcae it on a ship then please spare us...

please do something original... i mean... we've all seen this a 100 times... do we really wanna read it too?

this space for rent. $9.94 a day <--- doesn't get any better than that!

The only slasher I've ever wanted to do, is a slasher involving reality tv show applicants and all of it on pirated airwaves with a group of people trapped on an island with two serial killers.  All so the producer can have his revenge against the studio who rejected his idea.  Main revenge, he has the CEO's daughter on the island and they are somewhere near Jamaca where there are no Extradition laws.  That's the only slasher I've wanted to write and mostly because I hate reality tv shows.
Sara

P.S.
I would call it Last One Standing (but I think the title is taken.)

Hey, I like that idea. Sort of a REAL Survivors. I bet you they'd actually get people that would be willing to participate too. All for that 15 min of fame.

Yeah that's what I wanted it to be.  But under the disguise of being just an ordinary tv show.  I could put the synopsis up if you wanted to read it.

I read a book where this was part of the story. I liked it until the thing killing the people was some weird, created by science creature. Still, I think it could be made into something good, especially since your average person seem so eager to do absolutely anything to be on tv.

That is disappointing.  Mine would not have any sci-fi creatures.  It will take me about a week to write the first draft.  When i get it done I will post the link.

Helio, I love that saying.

I don’t understand why anyone would want to write something that already has so many rules laid out for it. It sounds more like you’re just going to plug some numbers into a formula and the darned thing will already be written for you.

It reminds me of those seventies shows where they had computers into which all you had to do was punch some info and it would miraculously tell you the villain’s next target.

Here’s an idea; take all those rules and avoid them at all costs.

Make sure you use any locations other than those. Somewhere no one would suspect. Somewhere like Clown School or a rodeo.

Write down all the clichés and avoid them like a sandstorm.

By the way, the Clown School and rodeo thing is a joke. Please don’t write a slasher at a rodeo.

So much for my next scripts, "Wild Kill Hickok"  and "Killer Rodeo Klowns from Outer Space."

Here's mine.  The only slasher script thus far I have wanted to write.

http://www.sarapricebooks.com/scripts/lastonestanding.pdf

The rough draft is a bit short coming in at only 79 pages, but I'll work on that during editing.
