Due to the dangerous conditions, isolation and hardship involved building Mars base, it has been decided hardcore convicts will be provided a chance for early release by serving their time building the base.   In the past, things have gone smoothly - it seems like this approach might be an effective means of rehabilitation.

Several politicians have built their careers along with the base and it's time for them to visit.  When they do, they discover that there's more than a few minutes radio delay in the news coming from Mars.   Things are not as they should be and the headcount of their workforce is dwindling faster than a rocket countdown.

That is the premise of the next Killer game.

Sign-up by posting your character name for this game in this thread. Include a description and brief history of your character.

For the first time ever you will be able to choose from one of three factions:  staff, politician or convict.  Also, unprecedented for a Killer game, all authors will get to create a second character during their first turn.   Either character can survive and make you the next Master Killer.

The game will start in approximately one week.

Sign-up now.

What we have so far...

Commander Farthing (50s)

A tall imposing man, yet not a wrinkle to be found on his uniform.

From his time as a cadet at West Point, he's always believed that following and enforcing rules are what wins a war.   That and a bit of quiet strategy.  He made a career out of the military rising through the ranks, mostly by his use of effective bureaucracy rather than spending any time on the front line.

It was shortly after the fifth Gulf war that he was appointed as Commander on Mars base.  What started out as a starry-eyed project soon turned sour when it was decided he would be using convicts as his labor-force.   He protested strongly against such a policy but the politicians wouldn't listen, all they cared about was how it looked to the voters - and the voters seemed to like the idea.

For a while the convict labor seemed to work out but as he's always said, old habits die hard, the convict were soon up to their old tricks.   This recent spate of killings at Mars base would prove the Commander was right, he just has to make sure he rubs those politicians noses in it when they visit.

DeSean Quinn, 26. Staff (Janitor).

Just another lost soul on the mean streets of New Compton, West California, Quinn has made a career out of staying alive. Whether it's stealing his first meal in a week or taking shelter in an abandoned steel mill, he's done it all in the name of survival. His soft-spoken demeanor and articulate nature contrasts the lost and lonely life he's endured.

Despite this, he respects the mantra his mother passed onto him, "An uneducated man is nothing while an educated man can have anything." After having attended every day of school in Torrance, DeSean graduated with a 3.37 GPA but was arrested two days later for grand theft auto. Knowing that he did steal the car, there was nothing to fight until the police informed him of the body they found in the trunk. Even after swearing he didn't kill the person, he was sentenced to life without parole under the Three Strikes policy.

After eight years behind bars, Quinn's attorney discovered evidence from the scene was improperly handled and got the murder charge dropped. Once released, and with the arrest hanging over him, DeSean turned to Mars because a janitorial job on Mars is still better than a janitorial job on Earth.

Yep. It will be fun.  People are busy thinking about their characters.   There's some newbies that aren't sure.  But we should have enough people to play within the week.

Constance "Connie" Harris (late-20's medical staffer)

An ebony-skinned black woman, Connie is short and slender but with a wiry strength uncommon in a woman her size.

Connie was born and raised in the same slums as many of the toughest Mars convicts. The difference is she made it through her teens without pregnancies or problems, finished high school and became a registered nurse. She's been around the block and has seen some of the horrific things one person can do to another, yet she still hangs on to a naive innocence about the world, and about the kinds of people she grew up with in particular. She saw the Mars operation as a chance to make a difference, to help some of the people that the rest of the world had given up on. She believes that everyone is basically good; that no one is truly "evil" and everyone deserves redemption. But on the Mars base, evil will show her it's true face... and she may not be ready for it.

Michael, the map is easily viewed, but it's so big that it increases the page width hugely and actually puts a scrolling bar on the bottom, meaning to read a post, you have to continually scroll sideways line by line, then back to read the start of the new line.

Anything you can do about this to make reading posts easier?

I've noticed this when peeps post a big picture of video at times and it always makes for such a difficult reading experience.

My character is still coming, BTW.

as a n00b i only request i not be the one to have to start this story off...

Senator Andrew Warren (42)

A Reverend from a small town in Western Oklahoma. Warren set his sights on the White House 8 years ago after his 6 year old daughter
Amy was kidnapped from her bedroom and savagely murdered.

The killer was never found.

When Warren ran for senator he stunned the nation when he publicly forgave his child's murderer. He declared he would make it his political
mission to abolish the death penalty; preaching correctional rehabilitation and second chances.

When the Mars project began, it was Warren's idea to use Convicts for the workforce in exchange for commuted sentences.

In recent months however Warren's behavior has become increasingly erratic and unstable. He's quietly developed a severe drinking problem
and has stopped going to Church. Those closest to him say he's become obsessed with his daughter's murderer, and that many of his fundamental
views appear to be in a severe state of flux.

I was thinking about this.  Pretty much any sci-fi has some vocabulary as part of it's universe.

Rather than let each author introduce vocabulary willy-nilly and then trying to keep track of it, I think it might be easier if we just create it up front and have a dictionary to help us use it.

So, I'm going to ask each player/author to come up with two terms these people would use to describe things in their everyday life.   It might be a piece of electronic equipment (i doubt they''d be using something called iPad), a historical event, a swear word or possibly a drug of choice.  It could be anything really as long as it's something they use in their current vernacular.   Please include a definition of your terms.

Be serious about it because I'll keep track of how many times each term is used and see who did the best.

Have fun.

My terms:

Lyzer - like a Taser but injects the victim with a strong fast-acting paralyzing agent.

Sneeze - a sniffed synthetic drug that gives a euphoric hallucinogenic high when made right, but causes uncontrollable, sometimes fatal, sneezing fits when made wrong.

Michael, these are great ideas and your 2 choices are nice as well.

Along the same lines, would it be a good idea for each of us to also choose 2 technological advances that we all know and understand are now reality on Mars?  My advice would be then to have everything else as we know it now.

Just an idea.

How about two historical events, which may be a technological advance?   That would give our world some depth?

Beryllium Infused Thermal Imaging System (BITIS) - Uses cameras placed around the facility to project a full 3D view of any image within its radius on a teleporter-like pad located in the Command Center.

Double Halex - Two-sided ray gun which melts down cobalt rods into non-lethal pellets to subdue suspects. Roughly the size of a sawn-off shotgun.

Hey Michael,

Can you give us a better idea of what exactly goes on at the Mars base? What was it built for, what specifically is its main purpose and about how far into the future does this take place?

Also, are there aliens? Or is it just us up there?

I'll get working on my two tech items.

Cheers.

The year is 2050 - so it's the not too distant future.

The purpose of the base is to establish the infrastructure for a colony on the planet.

There are no aliens -- yet.

And btw excellent terms, Blonde.

PAAPS (Proton/Antiproton Annihilation Propulsion System)

A scientific method by which supercharged bursts of protons and antiprotons are fired at each other, which causes them to explode in a burst of energy. The resultant energy is then fed through an engine system, which allows vehicles to move at tremendous speeds. The method has been adapted to fit large craft, which can carry people and equipment between Earth and Mars in just a few days, and also for smaller craft (such as shuttles and terrestrial modules) that can traverse the surface of Mars at extreme speeds.

That's all I've got for now. Will edit this with a second tech when I have one.

That's a good point, Jeff. I was thinking we'd need a faster propulsion system because the politicians are coming. According to WikiAnswers, moving at 40,000 km/h it would still take 38 days to get from Earth to mars, and that's in a straight line between here and there. Depending on orbital movement, Mars could be a lot further away, so that time frame could easily be doubled or tripled.

There are also lots of reasons that ships coming from Earth would be delayed or prevented from reaching the base, like atmospheric conditions, problems with the computers that calculate orbital approach vectors, or (as Mr. Blonde pointed out) good, old-fashioned sabotage.

i'm thinking this is a new drug... something the convicts discovered about certain soil samples on Mars while building. some of them might be looking to make a little profit once they get home... maybe some under-the-table deals going on with cetain Senator(s).

something to create possible motive for the killings.

Jenna Drast (early 30s) Convict

As a little girl, Jenna was warm-hearted and innocent despite the fact that her father was the biggest drug lord in the remains of the old world.

One fateful night, as her father was plotting the biggest drug deal ever known to man, he was betrayed and murdered by his second in command in his own private chambers. When officials came to search for clues the next day, all they found was Jenna hiding in the closet with a fresh scar running down her temple.
Years later when she became an adult, she restarted her dead father’s ‘franchise’ and began producing the highest quality ‘sneeze’ money could buy. She made billions in the process, hoping that eventually the psychological wound in her brain would heal.

Later on in her life, she was approached by a strange man in a gray suit. Meetings like this were uncommon for Jenna as no one dared enter her premises without a valid reason. But how could Jenna refuse when he offered the name of her father’s killer for 50% of her ongoing profit? As she heard those words, she automatically pulled her FN five-seven and put it to his head, threatening to shoot if he doesn’t speak. The man, obviously scared to death, blurted out some random gibberish, eventually mentioning something about a military hitman who now resides at Mars Base. As if by instinct, she shot the man in the nose then called 911, confessing to the murder.

She was immediately taken to jail as her criminal record held more lines than the bible. There, they revealed that she will serve life in prison. With ties from her gang, they bribed several judges and politicians and like a miracle, she was shipped across to Mars a week later to lessen her jail sentence.

Now, as she sits in her jail cell, all she can think about is her revenge. To destroy her father's killer who caused her all this pain and hardship over the years.

Henry Evans, mid twenties - Convict

Henry was brought up in an orphanage run by the Catholic church, starting at the age of ten he was physically and sexually abused by the head priest. He left the orphanage at the age of eighteen, but returned shortly in which he murdered the priest who abused him, and the nuns who let it happen. He was also suspected in ten other priest killings within the state, but was not proven guilty of those crimes.

Short and skinny, he was smaller than the other inmates, and his blond hair and blue eyes  put a "prison bitch" target on his back. So his first day in he killed the biggest inmate he could find. Also, in the eight years he has spent behind bars,  he killed another nine inmates, four gaurds, and one Warden.

While in prison, Henry being a bookworm, earned a PHD in Psychology and English literature. Henry has now got a taste for killing, mostly for those he feels are unjust. The system should know better than to give him early parole because he has no intent on rehibilitating, just carrying on his own sense of justice

A big Welcome to Mars  for all the new player/authors and to all the returning ones as well.  So far we have 6 characters - so we still need a few more.  If you were thinking about joining us, do it.  You'll have a good time and maybe learn something in the process - I promise!

I would suggest you lead with your non-convict character at this time since the cells are filling up.  It's going to be hard to start the story if our factions aren't about equal in the beginning.    Remember you create another character during your first turn and that one could always be a convict.

Those who already provided a character or are planning to - remember to provide your two terms for our lexicon.   They can be a technological advance, drug of choice, slang, or some other everyday thing in the future.  There's going to be a rule about creating these sorts of terms during the game - so create them now.

The map has been updated.

Bernard Devlin (35) Convict

Born into money, Benard (Bernie) had everything a child could want but the love of his parents.  Their love came in gift wrap and as a result Bernard became a loner, a social leper.  His childhood drifted into a fantasy world of make believe where anything was possible.

After the sudden and suspicious death of his parents, a sixteen year old Bernard now had his inheritance to help fuel his fictional life.  Under numerous names and over many years, Bernard lied, cheated and scammed his way to a prison sentence.

While serving his time, Bernard managed to bluff his way onto the base construction program in a hope of gaining an early release.

Richard Dasher (44, Planetary Scientist)

Dr. Richard Dasher, aka "Dash", has spent his whole life preparing to visit Mars, ever since the Curiosity Rover landed on the planet in 2012 and discovered organic compounds. But despite being in the top 3% in his field, Richard was passed over for the Mars One colony time and again because of severe hemophobia (fear of blood). Perhaps if he'd been there, the disasterous events of 2036 might have been averted.

When the government-backed Mars World project was initiated in 2040 Dash was finally given his travel documents. He quickly secured his position as leading expert on the planet and put in charge of all planetary exploration. He has been instrumental in the pilot phase of the project and his work has allowed construction of a full-scale base to begin. He now spends most of his time dealing with geological and environmental problems that arise with the building of the base, and has been kept fairly isolated from the prisoner population because of his importance to the project.

Mag-Pack - portable magnetic field generator, installed on vehicles to protect occupants from harmful cosmic rays without the need for space suits. Too large and heavy for personal use.

PEx - A Powered Exo-skeleton complete with space suit for heavy-duty operations on the Martian surface. The PEx comes equipped with a multi-purpose third arm which extends over the driver's head, much like a scorpion's tail. The arm is fitted with a multi-purpose head replete with various tools such as a laser cutter, arc welder, sonic pulverizer, and magneto-clamp.

I going to have to ask at least one of you to change your character from a convict to a politician or staff.  There's too many convicts to start.  I'm happy you all want to write for convicts but there needs to be other factions available at the begining otherwise I'm not going to be able to write the first few pages.

Also, when thinking of your terms try to think of ones that can actually be used.  I question we can use DiaLeak unless we were writing a balls out comedy.   Also, why would they smuggle it in, I would think it would be considered a useful drug.

Not meaning to be overly critical here but were all going to have to write using these characters and terms - best to put some thought into them.

Cheers.

Agreed with everythign Michael said!  I bet Michael is in shock how agreeable I've been with him lately - it's the new me, Cornie!

My character will be coming soon, and it will not be a convict.

I'm not 100% sure, but do we have a female convict already?  If so, I think it's a mistake - in logic.  We see the size of the Mars base and it's obviously ont a huge place.  To have both male and female convicts would be very expensive and toally unnecessary.

i dunno if or how this may fit into the story... but just an idea i had... i'll leave it up to you guys to take it or leave it.

JAWS - Farthing's pet dog.. A staffordshire terrior (with a touch of Bloodhound) that Farthings keeps in his quarters to discourage "thieves." The dog has an uncanny ability of consistantly getting loose in the compound. Not so coincidently some of the dog's favorite pass times include cornering/chasing roaming inmates around the compound and deficating in their living quarters.

We have two female convict and while I wasn't exactly crazy about the idea of having female convicts - two female two male would balance the population nicely at the start.   So, I'm cool with that.  However, we need more staff and politicians and those can be male or female.

Changes made. I would've done a Guard but I would've had to have re-written a different backstory.

EDIT: Not sure if you wanted anymore terms but I came up with a couple:

Falçe (fahl-SAY): Slang for a lazy person, a slow worker.

Code Halcyon ("Code H" for short): Code for a security breach, a prisoner escape or an atmospheric breach.

If you want to use them, go for it. If not, no biggie.

Mr Blonde,

i actually think that works better. gives him more depth.... an ex-con working amongst prisoners...

being this is a bit of a collaborative project... i had a thought....
what if hes an older guy? who spent his best years wrongly (perhaps) behind bars...?

would this not add possible motive?

Cool.  And I don't even have to move him.

However, I do have a suggestion before we finalize him.

What if you made him a politician?

That short stint in prison as motivation and some new found fame from his highly publicized release catapulted him into a life of politics where he's made his name pushing for prison reforms.

What do you think?

Pushing the boundaries of reality a bit but I'm cool with that. However, I'd prefer to keep him young.

Also, I added in a few more terms if you want to use them.

Can you make the changes, though, because typing is slow on this?

How's this?

Representative DeSean Quinn, 30. (Politician).

It didn't help that the body was a movie star and the high-profile trial was fueled by a media out to convict a killer - any killer.

Fueled by the the injustice against him and the abomination that is prison, DeSean studied law and passed the bar exam six years later.

After eight years behind bars, an investigator hired by Quinn's mother discovered evidence from the scene was improperly handled.  Quinn used this new information to get his murder charged dropped. His release sparked a new media event.

Quinn parlayed that notoriety into a seat in Congress.  Where he has become a major voice in the fight for prison reform.

I think we'll have enough terms with two from each of us.  Don't want to make the game unreadable to anyone who isn't playing.

However, if you would like to add some historical events to our world feel free to suggest.

Everything is updated...

I was actually incorrect about the convict count.  This was due to CONSTANCE "CONNIE" who stuck in my mind as a convict despite what was written.    That's been corrected.

Good work so far, dudes.

haha wow...talk about a scary coincidense....surprised no one said anything.

i was just reading over the Lake Simply Game... and noticed Dreamscale not only already did the Dog-sidekick thing.. but that we also gave the dogs eerily similar names... Chomper/Jaws.

swear on my life i didnt read that until just now.

that is crazy.

great minds think a-like i guess.

Technology

Mag-tech .38 Standard space issued .38 caliber pistols using liner magnetic technology to shoot projectiles at extreme velocity. By contrast to gun powder fired weapons - these are nearly silent and far less volatile. The ammo for these particular guns have metal casings, but ceramic points. This is so they can be fired with lethal force inside spaceships and other controlled interior enviorments without damaging the hull.

Okay Michael I'll lose DiaLeak and think of something else. I could also easily change Bernard to a guard if needs be? Being a liar and faker he could have taken the identity of someone else.

You don't need to change him to a guard.  We're looking pretty even on the factions now.   Though do change DiaLeak, please.  LOL.

I think the thing to remember when coming up with these terms is that they should be something we are going to refer to while writing the story.

Even if the stuff was DiaLeak - I doubt it would be referred to as DiaLeak. Maybe "gutmop" or "brownpants" or even "runz".    Especially if people were using it for fun.  You're British, Alffy, so I'm sure you know the score on slang.

And it's not just DiaLeak in the Lexicon that has issues with usage.  For example, I don't think any character is going to be spending any time outdoors or in vehicles.  The locations are the rooms on the maps (unless you convince me there's a compelling reason to add another location).  Shame to waste a precious term on a technology that will never be seen or mentioned.

So, think about how the term would be used and if anyone wants to change theirs, then do so.

Got my second piece of tech. Hopefully it will fit into the story better.

Personalised computer tablet (or tab)

A handheld device about the size and shape of an iPhone and works basically like a small laptop (or like one of those things they carry around in Star Trek, Trekkies help me out on this one). It also doubles as ID/clearance for base personnel so that they can easily access different areas of the base. Each tab is personalised so that security staff can more easily keep track of who goes where. But if one were stolen, say....

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?

Michael, you said the word can be something the character user, right?  What about
Bilking?

Not sure if it's a word you use in the States, if it is, I'll think of something else.  If it's not a word you use, it basically means to obtain something through deceit or theft.

Also Twoced, Taken Without Consent.

You got me think when you said I'm British so think of a slang term.  I'll list some and maybe you could say which you think would work well, and one you don't maybe know.
Bees Knees meaning something is brilliant.
Botch or Botch Job meaning the work done is not of god standard.
codswallop meaning what someone said is not true
Pip pip meaning to say goodbye
or maybe
Screws meaning a Prison Guard.

I'd rather use a term that was uncommon to you in the States.

I think you're missing the point with the terms, alffy.  They are words or slang that doesn't already exist.  This is occurring in the future and there will be new things (or even old things) with new names.

There are always new terms in sci-fi, it's a technique that causes us to feel like we are in a different place.  You are destined to come up with them while writing this script.

The idea of having the authors create two terms at the start is because if I allow people to create these terms while writing then the understand-ability of the script will suffer.  It could very easily get out of control.  Plus it will cause us to spend time in the script explaining these terms rather than furthering the story.

Much better to nip it in the bud right away.

Everyone else who is playing...

...should be adding their character to this thread....I have to start getting the paperwork prepared so the deadline is essentially Friday (my time).  Get those characters in.

...should be adding their two terms to this thread.

Just to help people with the terms stuff here's the logic I would use to come up with a term...

I'll use the tablet as an example (tab is a fine name, Matt - this is just here as a quick example).

1. I would imagine what it looks like in the future..  I would imagine that a tablet was a clear plexiglass slab.

2. I would associate.  I would associate a clear tablet with a window.  This association is further enhanced by the current operating system - Windows - which may even be the operating system it will have.

3. I would shorten.  Windows is too long and hard to say, if I'm going to refer to it all the time.  So, I would call it a "dow"  or even a "doe"  to correct the sound.   I could even name it "do" (rhymes with two) - which would be what it does.

So my term would be:

Do - a small clear plexiglass computing tablet.

That way people could say "Where's my do?", or "Let me check that on my do", or "Why is my do making strange noises?  OMG! The core's about to meltdown! Run!"

Hope that helps,

Michael

Devil's Eyes  Issued to all isolated facilities to quickly help determine the cause of death.
Looking like a pair of goggles, The 'Devil's Eyes' are placed on the victim; they catch and project the final image of the deceased.  They must be attached within 30 minutes of death or the image is lost.  Attaching to a living person can result in blindness.

Yeah, I mean you have 30 minutes after someone dies.  I was did have 3 minutes but that would make them practically useless unless someone carried them with them everywhere.

Jeff, I too think it's getting a bit complicated.  I hope I can keep track of all this equipment and jargon lol.

I actually keep thinking about my 'Devil's eyes' thing and think I could come up with a decent short based on them.  I'll add it to the endless list of ideas I have.

It's no more complicated than any other Killer game.   It will be about the same as the Lake Simply game.   There will be a list of terms.  Take a look at bottom of the first post of this thread.  The reason for asking for this stuff up front is so that you don't have to keep track of them - I keep track of them.

And alffy that was an excellent term for our Lexicon.

Since Jeff bowed out, it would be good to get one more player.  So, if you were thinking about creating a character - go for it.

Good job, George.

Michael, I know it's not too complicated.  To be honest, I wasn't thrilled with a number of the special things peeps were creating, and kind of saw where this was going to lead...somewhere I really didn't want to go.

No big deal.  These games are definitely fun and help with writing for sure.

Michael,

being that our secondary characters have a chance to survive and become the killer - thus an integeral part of the game -- wouldnt it make sense to post them here as well?

it would save the time of having to explain them when writing our scenes..

just curious as to how that is going to work?

Let them be a surprise to your fellow players.

When you take your first turn and introduce them you can send me the history and I'll post it in the list with the other characters.

And don't get too set on your second character just yet - you never know what direction the script will take.

Eliot Cantrell, 50s, Special Envoy

A short intense man.

A third generation politician. His sharp wit and abrasive nature remind people of his late mother’s years of service.

Early in his career, he acted as if he was entitled to success. He was accused of not being in touch with the common man and took a bold step to work in the slums of New York for one year. It was in the depths of the slums he dreamed of a plan to save the world.

He now speaks of the need for action to repair the world. The Mars venture is critical to his plan. Mars resources are for Earth, not to grow a colony on Mars. In other words, he sees the project as completely subordinated to Earth. Little more than slaves. He is obsessed with his plan and sees himself as the logical leader to save Earth.

Lexicon

ALAN (Artificial Lexical Algorithm Network) - A computer that manages the base.  It is programmed to speak with a soothing voice.  It knows and sees all.

Last Gate Protocol – A safety protocol to prevent opening of the last gate shut in case of breach. Controlled by ALAN.

Putting me on the spot here, Michael . I'll try and think of my second term when I have time.

Errand Poker - Classic Texas Hold 'em but with a new twist. As money is near useless to the convicts on Mars, new ways to gamble have originated. One of them being Errand Poker where 2-6 convicts play a game of Texas Hold Em. The winner, instead of getting the pot, chooses a job that the losing players have to do. It can range from theft to murder depending on how high the stakes are. The errand is chosen by all the players at the start of the game. If one refuses to complete the errand, his index finger is cut off by the other convicts.

I suck at coming up with these terms, hopefully they don't blow too much.

SKUNT - a slang term used by inmates for authority figures (guards, wardens, politicians).

PURPLE RAIN - a drug used on inmates when they become out of control or start to cause trouble, it makes them docile and more willing to follow commands, effects last only 2 hours.

I don't know whether to be excited or terrified.

I would just like to say that I hate two of you. I won't say who but somehow, you guys managed to come up with two character names for people in my comic book; my main character and my second main villain. How is that even possible?

Kidding (about hating) but serious about the names. That is an incredible coincidence...

Ok, I have my character one and two terms (1 event and 1 device).

Term 1 is a historical event where I opted to make a War of the Middle East an official big war that will explode eventually in 2031 and last until 2038. While the world had concentrated its forces in Afghanistan, the Taliban had fled to Oman and rebuilt themselves into a concentrated force. Little by little, they took over Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait from the inside out by subtly getting into governmental positions of power. From there, they were able to influence their way into the larger countries of Syria, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. By the time, the world leaders discovered what was going on, they had wormed their way into Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Afghanistan. Forming a coalition between those countries, they drove out all foreign military presence, followed by concerted terrorist attacks on London, Paris, Washington DC, Berlin, Madrid, Beijing, Tokyo, and Moscow. The attacked nations united but had considerable trouble in defeating their enemies since their enemies still existed in their own countries and continued attacking from the inside out. Embargoes on travel were useless, and since their people were in power across multiple countries, it was difficult to know where to attack. The conflict finally came to an end in 2038 with the signing of the treaty of Tegucigalpa (sponsored by Samsunkia, though how anyone arrived at Honduras as a neutral territory for a treaty signing is anyone's guess).

Term 2 is a Sonic Map. This device was used by the military, primarily, to decipher underground tunnels and determine the position of the enemy. It uses a combination of soundwaves, lasers, and infrared light scanning to create a 3 dimensional holographic map above the device including whatever is moving. The range of the mapping is limited to 100 feet, line of sight, and turn angles of less than 70 degrees. Because of what is can do, it was never released into the public and not very many of these devices are in existence. However, Adam Worth is in possession of one of these devices at the beginning of the story to figure out where people are in proximity to him.

Adam Worth 39, Staff, Starting location: Mess

Adam played a role in the War of the Middle East from 2033-2038 constantly behind enemy lines feeding information to the United States, England, France, Germany, and who knows how many other countries. It was always suspected that Adam was working for multiple countries, including the enemy, though no charges could ever be filed as no one ever had any evidence that there was any wrongdoing...or at least, none that anyone lived to tell about. Most of his psychiatric evaluations listed Major Worth as normal, though unofficially, psychiatrists who evaluated him believed he simply answered their questions with what they wanted to hear and told them the stories that would give him that result.

while he officially left the military in 2041, he worked for the CIA for several years before asking to work as security on Mars. His exemplary work record permitted the transfer, but most wondered why he would be interested in such a position. To date, his work ethic and performance have been beyond reproach, but it's possible he might have something to do with this most recent development, though if so, it would be the first time he's ever gotten his hands dirty that anyone is aware of.

He is occasionally addressed by the military personnel on the base as Major Worth, though he is quick to point out that it is simply Mister at this point as he no longer holds any position in any military. He has a near perfect eidetic memory, and thanks to his combat experience, is more than proficient in most weapons. His personality is very logical and calculating to the point that someone's death will only cause him to remark that nothing can be done for them and there is little point in wasting time on it.

Good stuff.

Entry to Martian Mayhem is now closed.   I'll start writing the first few pages very soon.

There's two rounds to this game and everyone gets one turn each round.

The order for the first round is the order you entered.

Cool. That means I go last. There's no killing in round 1, right?
