Steven, I gave this a read and I liked it a great deal.  Your set ups are so descriptive I can actually see the scenes playing out in my mind.  And I love the addition of the puppy - I'm an animal lover so that hit a soft spot, but using the dog's development to give a sense of time passing is a brilliant touch.  In seven pages you do an outstanding job of laying out the entire sphere of their relationship and in the process tug more than a few heart strings.  Good job and thanks for sharing.  Good luck with this!
