April 2017 OWC

As promised, a new and original format!

Timeline: challenge announced 4/14, 10 PM EST

Scripts Due: 4/21 midnight

“Winner” of the challenge announced 2 weeks later

For those new around here: there’s no entrance free, no prizes...this is an exercise.

There will be 3 levels to the scoring:

Title and logline
Reader polling
A professional writer

Those 3 components will have equal weight.

Title and logline:

This scoring will be determined by special guest evaluator Carson Reeves, the scriptshadow. He will score each logline. This is not just about constructing a good logline...this is about coming up with a title and a concept that stands out, which is crucial to getting your project noticed.

Reader polling:

Each participant will get to score the other scripts: Poor  Fair  Good  Very Good  Excellent

Special judge:

A mystery professional writer has promised to read all of the scripts and give scorecards.

Everyone who enters should understand that it’s expected that they read as many scripts as they can and provide honest notes. We’re all in this together...quid pro quo

Now go get those Chinese keyboards before the stores run out!!!

Woohoo!!!!  Love it!

Sounds great, Pia!

Loglines are not my bestest friend, but I'll sure make an effort on this one.

Looking forward to it.

Let's guess the genre and challenge!

Here's my humble guess.

Genre- Dance (i.e. Footloose, Dirty Dancing)
Challenge- An aging spy takes one last job.

Pure gold!

My first OWC!! I joined at a really perfect time, this seems like a mini nanowrimo for screenplays so there's a chance I'll actually finish this!

Awesome! Thanks for doing this, Pia!

Looks like I'm finally gonna have to learn how to write a logline.

Aga! I got it - Pia is doing this OWC and James scarefest club. Only why is there 3 s (as in SSSC) as opposed to 4. It is SimplyScripts Scarefest Script Club. I see 4. Maybe SimplyScripts is being counted as one word or something.

Kham's gone all pirate too - Aga!

This sounds like a very interesting collaboration, to say the least.

So, Carson's only logline and title, not reading and judging story?

Hmm, the plot thickens...

Oh wow!!!
This is a great opportunity for all of us to get a feel for the whole process.

I am SOOOO glad I got the flu this week and can be recovered by then.  I just need to hibernate until I feel better!

I hear there's a second Tuesday of the week coming soon.

PS. The topic is half-llama and it has to be set in the future!!

Dan

Please read my scripts:
http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-series/m-1427564706/

I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good.  I enjoy writing the same.  Looking to team with anyone!

Thanks

Ugh, Russian trips me - I thought there's aga in English, something you say when you discovered an interesting fact. Like something about James and his club.
(by the way, on FB you can switch your language settings to Pirate and it's a lot of fun)

just let me know how i can somehow spin the genre into a comedy

I'd list my "work" here, but I don't know how to hyperlink.

"Career" Highlights
-2, count em, 2 credits on my IMDB page.
-One time a fairly prominent producer e-mailed me back.
-I have made more than $1000 with my writing!
-I've won 2 mugs... and a thong.  (polaroids of me in thong available for $10 through PM)

@vc_wg - because I crave attention

No. This is someone I met at Done Deal years ago.

Correct.

I'm not sending him the scripts. Only title and loglines. I doubt he would search his way all over to this place just to find a short written in a week.

But, who knows, maybe he'll be so blown away by one of the logs concepts or such that he'll ask for the script.

See ya'll on Friday! I have the assignment figured. I like it. Wish I could take part.

Dena, I know you'll stamp one out!

Preteen love story where the boy's family is blown up, so he moves in with his lovergirl and then impregnates her, so her father tortures him in the basement.  When baby is born, "it" too is thrown in the basement and grows into killer creature, eating his father and ravaging all girls in the hood.

I'm pretty sure this will be the theme and challenge.
