Well...at least it wasn't a student this time. The moral of this story is, MOVE AWAY FROM COLORADO!!!

"Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd" - George Carlin
"I have to sign before you shoot me?" - Navin Johnson
"It'll take time to restore chaos" - George W. Bush
"Harry, I love you!" - Ben Affleck
"What are you looking at, sugar t*ts?" - The man without a face
"Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death." - Exodus 31:15
"No one ever expects The Spanish Inquisition!" - The Spanish Inquisition
"Matt Damon" - Matt Damon

Ok, before you comment on a news story, please oh please at least tell those of us who aren't reading the news what you're talking about. That being said. What the heck are you talking about?

Old guy went into school in Colorado, had a gun and said he had a bomb in his backpack, took girls hostage, SWAT team came in, he killed one student and shot himself. That's basically it in a nutshell.

maybe in the near future we will read in ads " Hey, folks are you in the age of to go to the school? So, buy our yellow-black coffins and nice ride!" or " Schools: nice place to die learning!"

I smell a mini-series...

Which television company will be the scumbag this time?  I think ABC did the DC Sniper.  I vote CBS.

Hey Guy, is this part of a huge ad campaign to announce a mini-series? Would the TV company pay these nuts to shot students and shot themself with a promise that they will get the heavens and a part in the mini-series? Gosh!

Of course, Helio.  How else do you think CBS is going to compete against Lost and Grey's Anatomy?

"Old guy went into school in Colorado, had a gun and said he had a bomb in his backpack, took girls hostage, SWAT team came in, he killed one student and shot himself."

That is the perfect pitch, too.  I think Ray Liotta would make a fine lead in this type of story.

HOLY SHIT! what's with all the school shootings? Canada, Colorado, this amish school, a kid shot his principal in Wisconsin, in Green bay three kids were caught with a plan and a bunch of pipe bombs and explosives, and they were all within the last month.

columbine was on 4/20/99. I'm sure someone will "celebrate" with a shooting at their school on the tenth anniversary.

This is gettng so stupid. im not gong to get into a rant here, because i got one on another site all ready, but DAMN!

With the excpetion of the old guy, i was like a lot of these kids.  was harrased daily alot, listened to metal music and played and watched violent things. yet i never shot my classmates. i wonder why these kids do it, when i was harrased just as bad, if not worse than most of them, and yet, never shot up my school. it boggles my mind. there are better ways to get revenge. go on to be sombody, that would be the best thing you could do to your torrmenters. while there nobodys, you can be somthing. your better than these harrassers and you throw it all away for a minute of satifaction. is it worth it?  in my eyes, it is not.

I also find it funny that, 5 years after 9/11, they say were safer from "Mohammud", yet we can't keep teens from killng each other. very sad.

You know I've been thinking. Violence in the school happens every year. Perhaps terrorism isn't scaring people like it use to. It isn't getting the job done. Now we focus on "school violence" and now we have everyone on their toes again.

Doesn't that seem how our media works?  We eased away from reports of the Iraq these past couple weeks haven't we? It isn't the war that's in the front page. Now it's school terror. I mean it's a sad fact but school violence happens every year. Yet it's only now that they report it.

It's like Columbine came and for a year after it was this fervent report of violence after violence. Let's not negate the fact that Columbine was in no way the first violent incident at a school.

I do feel horrible for the victims and my condolences go out to the families. But I think this sudden "influx" is simply a move by the media.

Last year there were several nation-wide shootings and I don't think any were reported. Why are we reporting them now?

I'm guessing they must be occuring more often now. It's sick. I can't imagine why someone would do that sort of thing. I'm wondering if anything like that has happened here in England. I'm out of school now thankfully but I'm also pretty thankful that I never really hear of that stuff happening in England... or does it?

Still, what has happened to these killers heads? Why do it? For poops and giggles? Fucking sick bastards.

When I was in junior high the janitor found a bunch of pipe bombs. I really have no idea where they were, or what happened. All I know is that we were ordered under our desks, and yeah... Whoever does this stuff is obviously malfunctioning in the brain.

I miss the days when the only thing you had to worry about in school was getting caught in the stairway making out with your girlfriend/boyfriend or failing a grade.  This is getting crazy.

The janitor at my high school once set half the school on fire.  This was after I graduated.  There were fundraisers and all that stuff to raise money to rebuild it.  I knew the janitor, too.  He was a cool dude.

The world is crazy and getting crazier.

It probably does, but no one really cares about shootings in England.  MSNBC would rather report something that happened in the US than in Europe.  Nothing personal, we're just the media capital of the world.  You guys had a couple bombings there last summer I think and it was gone from the news channels in about two weeks.  Madrid, Spain as well.

EDIT:  There was a school shooting in Scotland in 1996.  Dubbed the "Deadliest Attack in United Kingdom History"  Left 18 dead.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunblane_massacre

But I didn't think guns were big in England, anyway.  Like all of your action movies and stuff have melee weapons like bats and knives rather than guns.  Good example is 28 Days Later.  What is a zombie movie without guns?  I didn't think it was possible, by Alex Garland accomplished that.

On a side note though, these American school shootings are nothing.  I still think the worst was the Beslan school shooting on September 1, 2004 in Beslan, Russia.  A Musilim group overtook the school during the first day of school where the parents and children had some type of open house or something and kept them there for four days without food and water before Russian officials infiltrated.  But that wasn't before the group ordered and forced the a majority of the parents to shoot their own children dead in those four days.

And I'll bet you 100 dollars that 9 out of 10 people you ask do not even know this ever happened.  10 Amish students?  What about 186 kids aged 4-18 being raped by extremists, killed execution style by their own parents, and used as human mine detectors during their planned escape?

Because they want to kill themselves but don't have quite enough motivation to do it. Once they murder a couple of kids they've reached the point of no return and find killing themselves easier than facing the consequences of what they've just done. Selfish bastards.

It is to think and discuss: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15142930/?GT1=8618

It also remiands me one scene:

Int. Class room - morning

The room is crowed by pupils. Mr Scott is in the middle of calling. She holds a list and calls one by one...

                                                Mr. Scott
                               ...Lia.
                                                Lenox
                              Yes.

                                               Mr. Scott
                               Phil...

Alice, (12) stands up...

                                               Alice
He didn't come, Mr.Scott. he is ill.

Mr. Scott  smashes the list...

                                               Mr. Scott
                               ...Alfonse

No answer!

                                               Mr. Scott
                                          (opening his case)
                              ALFONSE!

Alfonse (14), that doesn't show any entusiasm rises his hand up...But showing a finger to MR. Scott!

                                              Mr. Scott
                             There you are...Stand up, now!

Showing he is boring, Alfonse stands and...

BAM! BAM! BAM!

Alfonse falls heavy among the chairs!

Mr. Scott puts the gun inside the case.

                                             Mr. Scott
Okay, now. Who was Samuel Colt?

Helio,

That reminds me of a scene from Class of 84. One of the teachers had a nervous breakdown and showed up to class with a piece. He began asking various trouble makers questions and if they got it wrong...

What folks ignore is the story behind the shooter.  There are some interesting stories there.  What does it take to bring someone to the point to commit these crimes?  Why does the shooter all ways off themselves after it's all over?

It's difficult to take a side because the media immediately starts analyzing the guy's intentions.  This is all ways blown out of proportion -- kinda reminds me of the elections.

There is a definite lack of accountability to the administrations and parents.  If someone has a kid that constantly picks on another kid, you can only guess what the kid, who is being picked on, breaking point is?  But nobody ever takes that angle.

I am not saying the kid's actions are correct.  I just don't think we are ever seeing the full story.

Guns don't kill people.  People kill people.  Kids pick on kids -- maybe we should ban that behavior.

Banning guns would just put guns solely in criminals' hands.  Seriously, if you are going to commit a crime, wouldn't you also own guns illegally as well.

Let's look at Chicago.  Handguns are banned.  But there are still handgun crimes in the city.  Obviously, that ban is doing a great job.

Meanwhile, there are people who like to shoot for fun.  There are tactical shooting competitions.  There are long distance shooting competitions.  We have the Civilian Marksmanship program.  Afterall, if we are going to send our boys to Iraq, maybe some training for them in safe gun handling as kids make sense.

Hmmm...

What do guns then do? Sing Kumbayah?

The function of a gun is to kill.

It's true a ban might not be effective NOW, after having already flooded the market with firearms, but the problem here is still guns. Or the accesability to them.

And I don't understand why guns have to be so easy to come by? If you have a tactical shooting comepetition coming up, then you won't have a problem acquiring a proper license. I'm okay with people wanting to shoot for fun, just like some people like to cruise around in a Pinto for fun, but they still need a license that shows they know how to drive.

Has anyone seen this play or read it?

http://www.bangbangyouredead.com/

Or seen the movie based on it?

They are both pretty deep but seem to have relevance again. Although I don't think the relevancy has ever died down.

Very well said.

The 2nd amendment was written with respect to a well-regulated militia. It does not apply to individuals. This is why cities, such as Chicago, can ban hand-guns. That said, We've no right, as individuals, to "bear arms."

Even if we did possess such a right, as many Americans believe we do, it wouldn't come complete without restrictions. Our right to free speech, as Tony Boza, former police chief of Minneapolis, says, doesn't allow us to lible, slander, or act to incite a riot. Every single right in the constitution is circumscribed. Not one is absolute.

That said, hand-guns, along with automatic and semi-automatic weapons (in other words, weapons of mass destruction), should be banned.

Why? Why? Honestly.  I just don't know anymore.

And you know what makes these things even worse?  Remember the Jonesboro Massacre in 1998?  That was the one where there was a 13 year old and his 11 year old cousin and they shot up and killed a handful of students.  Well, they're out of jail.  Walking free.  I don't give a shit if they were kids when they KILLED people.  Throw away the fucking key.

This is just too weird. And why only in the U.S? Look at Mexico--there is less social security over here, and that's not a big secret. And yet, the last school shooting here happened more than eight years ago, with only two prior to that over the course of twelve years (don't know how accurate my info. is though). I don't understand why a country like the U.S which seems relatively safer than most others can be so vulnerable to school shootings, specially if it's young adults commiting the acts. I just don't get it. It doesn't make any sense.
