They sure invented a lot of new teams since I was watching. What the hell is Shaktar? Sounds like some dish I wouldn't order at the Mongolian barbeque.

Wrong code, Sniper. The place to be this Friday night is the MCG. My boys, The Mighty Collingwood Football Club, take on Geelong in front of an expected crowd of 93,000. If we win we're into the Grand Final (thats the Superbowl to you Americans) Our full forward is Anthony Rocca and as some of you will know his older brother Saverio recently made his debut as a punter for the Philadelphia Eagles. In this year's final series we've beaten both of last year's grand finalists. Last weekend we drew with the West Coast Eagles and then ended up winning by 19 points in extra time. However, this week is our greatest challenge thus far. Geelong has been the best team all year and finished the regular season three wins clear on top of the ladder, but we've peaked at the right time and are a huge chance. Go you Mighty Magpies. Here's a little something to get fans of all football codes fired up; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myyWXKeBsNk |

Yes, we call it football beacuse you play it with your feet. American football should be renamed "handball". |

I don't understand Australian football either. To me it just looks like a mish-mash of people in a huddle and everything seems accidental really. Goal number two, which I guess is supposed to be spectacular, looks like he doesn't even hit it right but the commentators are ecstatic...
I guess I just miss some kind of grace. I understand there probably is beauty in the strategy and tactics like in American Football but it's just not pretty to look at, to me.
I prefer those kind of sports that have goalies and nets. Football, hockey and the likes. |

I don't get Aussie football either, I don't think they are allowed to run with the ball and have to bounce it but whenever I watch it (which isn't often) they just run with it for an age then occasionally bounce it or punch it? Also kicking a ball between two large posts, how hard is that? What's with the other posts too, do you get less points between them? Don't get me wrong, it looks brutal at times and I wouldn't fancy getting smashed by some of them guys but football (soccer) is the geatest sport in the world!! |

You have to bounce the ball every ten steps or it's holding the ball, which is the equivalent to a travel in basketball. You have to get rid of it as soon as an opposition player grabs you, unless you can shrug them off. It's six points for kicking it through the big sticks and one if it goes through the small ones.

What I love about Football is how sometimes it can be completely acrobatic. Consider the scissorkick (overhead kick): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaCZVKtxxScEven though I don't follow the sport much anymore, it's still one of most fun sports to play, IMO. |

I enjoyed the funny stuff. Tonight's match is just six hours away. I'm either going to end this day feeling fantastic or I'll be franticly trying not to spiral into depression. We're just two wins away from being champions but only one loss away from oblivion. |

Thanks for the rules Chris. I'd love to see Aussie football being played in England...freezing cold, raining, gale force wind, muddy pitch and players wearing short shorts and vests. God I hate our weather |

I really hate "Football/Soccer" argument. Who cares what it's called. All I gotta say is, "They're hot!" VS (I give permission for the Moderators to delete this post, or at least the pictures, for the sake of the community.) |

I realize American Football is considered a type of "football" by virtue of the fact that it's a direct descendent of Rugby Football, but calling a game in which 90% of the game is played with your hands "Football" just doesn't make sense to me. That's like calling (real) football "throw-ball" because occasionally there are throw-ins. Sorry, it's just something that has always irked me. |
