Simplyscripts is an amazing venue to work within and connect with others who also value the written word.

The interesting thing is that along the way, you connect with people that are seemingly at a distance and yet, surprisingly near. Ever have that? Where with a family member you might completely feel as east is from the west and yet with a stranger, you are close?

Many people experience this and it's a wonder why. Although there are some very close families, there are many that can't get a long for the life of them.

So anyways, sorry if I'm starting too many threads. Give me a nasty, but I'm wondering:

Why do you love Simply?

Sandra

I like it because it is a tight-knit sort of community, but at the same time there is honest and valuable criticism and information to take in from others.

I just think it's such a great resource. I wouldn't know half the things I know about writing today if not for this site.

I feel the same way, Julio. All of us together here, I think we are here together. And where is "here"? I'm apologizing now to the gentleman, (I can't remember) but in his "location" under his avatar it says, "At my computer." !!!!!

This is an amazing testament to the fact that our thoughts are influencing us as we speak-- even if we don't know it.

Thought has no velocity. It's something that we can't even comprehend.

Here at Simply, we have been invited and have thus joined a community that is completely engaged in THOUGHT.

The people here are dedicated to it. They live it and breath it and read

BROADWAY BETTY by Blakkwolfe to learn how Betty describes The Passion.

I love our crazy mix of people here on Simply. We truly are a community and it's strange-- though virtually based, we may be more real than what we experience at the grocery store.

If think back to why I joined originally, I just discovered the site as a means to show off the scripts I'd written on a site other than my own. I discovered the message board when I clicked the "Discuss this script" link next to the synopsis I'd sent in. I thought to myself "people will discuss it"?! Naturally, no one had discussed it, but I joined the board, pimped my stuff heavily, whined about no one reading it, and then became a productive member.

Over the years since then (holy crap, 5 years in November!), I've learned more from this site than I have from books I've read or even scripts I've written. It's been from the comments tossed back and forth about my own work and the what I've gotten out of reading, commenting, and discussing works of others. Writing is one thing, and it's important to do it in order to improve on it, but I've learned it's just as important to read what everyone else has done as well.

Bottom line is I would not be the writer I am without my time here. Even though I've been in and out now and again, I've never left completely, and I always read what's going on, even when I'm too busy to post much or participate in what goes on (*cough* like the recent OWC *cough*).

Furthermore, those people who have been around long enough to create a presence here are like an extended family. I've come to appreciate a lot of the people around here, and I admit that I have a lot of bias towards those who have been here awhile. It's the same kind of preference one would show to a long standing friend or family member. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

I definitely think we're more real as a community than a lot of real communities out there. We probably know each other better than most of us know our actual neighbors. But then, a forum like this is easy to pipe up in, even for those of us who are introverted (which I'm sure is a fair number since writing is a very solitary task).

I think George pretty much covered it all...

I've been a member since April 2004. I haven't taken any screenwriting classes.
I learned from the Screenwriter's Bible, and my wonderful family at Simplyscripts.

I really don't want to get all mushy, but Simplyscripts is a wonderful place. A home away from home for writers, and the regulars ARE like extended family members, and like George says, I do know them better than my neighbors.

Yes, your Honor, I’m guilt. Your Honor, I'm convinced that I'm an addict in this Simply for long 4 years! So I’d like to face a maximum sentence of more four years or so being a SS member.

I like it because we can all relate to one thing: Script writing. everyone helps each other, and stuff. I've also got amazing help from a few on here so basically I've got SS to thank for that.

Isle 10- A series I'm currently writing with my friend Adam and it will go into production soon. Think The Office meets 10 Items or Less.

I love it here because I can use my avatar to stop time, and make it look like I'm not losing my hair.

I just don't have any contacts or screenwriting classes, or writing groups here in Wisconsin so I am grateful to SS for providing support. My friends and family get tha confused look in their faces when they ask me what I've been doing lately and I say "Writing." What kind of writing would that be son? "Screenwriting sir." (a la Bill Murray in Stripes)

And for providing challenges to get me off my ass and complete something. I am still surprised by the number of creative people here who will help. The last OWC was impressive for the orignality of the contest and 38 entries.

But the thing I like best is the FEEDBACK. Giving or getting.

I love all the drunks I've met. No matter where I go in the world, I'll always have someone to go to AA with me.

Is Bert a woman? That would explain a lot.

I'm mainly here for the script writing thingy too.

But the women always make the visit far more interesting.
