Why someone would search for a partner to write a script? It is like looking for someone to argue with .... Can two people write something together before killing each other? Is there any example of something big happens by two minds? as i know the Mona Lisa wasnt painted by a committee.... The biggest things happens when you are alone......
Today i began i small project with a friend. He had never write anything but he had a good idea. So we begun to work it out. In the begining was fun , then fascinating..... then he want to kill me , then i want to kill him.........
Had anyone here work in a partnership that went well? And how you do it??
I think the main thing is that the other person is dedicated and willing to work as hard as you. Practically every collaboration I've done has failed because the other person just wasn't in it. Personally, I'd rather work alone (total control) and would take some convincing to jump aboard another group project but I'm past the point of thinking collaborations never work out. My sentiments aren't the same in regards to writing based on another's guidelines. That can actually be pretty fun and an excellent way to enhance your writing ability.
The hardest part about writing for me is coming up with an idea "I" like... Not just any idea. An idea so good it makes you want to write it. Not these jerk spurt ass fan fic scripts you see littering the horror section here. Scripts that the writer sees the latest remake and offers up his own... Those aren't viable ideas. I'm talking about good, original ideas that you feel no one but "YOU" can write them.
That's how I write... I won't write just anything. I have to believe in the story. The characters. The setting. The mood has to be right. If all of the above don't meet my standards... it's not going to get done.
Now, add another writer into the mix. One with his own little nauences...You can quickly see where and why all my collaboration attempts have failed. Then again, I'm a prick and hard to get a long with. I think solo writing is my thing.
I love seeing two writers like Tom Gammel and Max Pross do their thing, though. Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are two other guys I find fascinating in how they could pool their minds together for two sides of creativity that were funny.
So collaboration "can" work... it just depends on the writer. Every one is different.

You know Baltis i always agree with you.... This is my way too. The truth is he has a very viable idea but he is going to ruin it.
I will try tomorrow too and i will inform you how it goes.....
P.S. One problem with this partnership is that i know him for many years and i cant take him seriously.... The mutual respect is a must!

With regard to collaboration:
I feel personally drawn to it. It's my passion to get inside of another person's mind as though it's my own. Indeed, I believe it is, (my own) although I don't picture it that way at present, due to "an illusion" that I'm under, and for good purpose, I might add, however:
When I have the opportunity to work with others, it thrills me more than you can imagine. Unless you know what I'm talking about, you won't know what I'm talking about, but it's really a beautiful thing!!! It's better than "Coke adds Life!!!!" and "It's a Beautiful Thing!!!!"
The connection is so fabulous that I start wondering if I will ever be able to work alone again???!!!! And I'm starting to think, "No!!!! No I don't think so!!!!"
I just don't feel good working alone. I feel like I'm empty and I feel like those are old days that have evaporated and have dissolved in the process of evolution.
If I can't work with someone else, then I have to ask myself, "What are you working for? What are you living for?"
And thus:
I want to proclaim here:
That if it wasn't for Michael Cornetto and Pia and Phil and Rob and several others, and of course DON!!!! I would not be here and I can feel the emotive construction of everything in what we do on a daily basis, moment, by moment.
It's a blessing to be here and if we can ever make Stevie's script a reality in that we get toether, (not to die) but get together, I think we should try.
We have a place in the north of BC where we are completely inside of Nature. We can fish and if we desire, we can hunt big game, (in season) or grouse, which taste really good, or we can also rely on our commercial products to help us...
No matter what we do, or how we do it, I do imagine us getting together and that we can, as friends:
Sit out under the moonlit sky, doing some serious stargazing and fire-stoking...
And living a grateful life!!! And whatever happens, happens.
I've just realized that I'm seriously an LMT.
What's an LMT?
It's a Last Minute Texter. Although I don't do texting, I have a hard time calling-off a conversation. I always feel remiss. So I think:
If I were a texter: I'd be one of those to always be "adding something on", when the other person, indeed, wants to "close up" and say "Goodbye".
... And thus I've just went OFF TRACK AGAIN, HAVEN'T I???
Suffice it to say:
Balt:
When you said:
"That's how I write... I won't write just anything. I have to believe in the story. The characters. The setting. The mood has to be right. If all of the above don't meet my standards... it's not going to get done. "
I completely agree!!!!!! As silly as I can sometimes be, I don't take lightly, what I know is important. ...and... There is no current "icon" that exists to express that.
I'm thinking I could write with a woman. She could write the girl parts, I could write the guy parts...she could write the girl parts, I could write, she could, oh, she could, oh, uh, I could, yeah, right there.

We could do that. And I could have an orgasm with you.

The simple answer to the question is... two heads are better than one. Yes there will be blood (Of course there will) there should be. Passion is a strong emotion.
A big problem I see when people want to collaborate, here, is that they essentially place a classified ad, here, looking for a partner. This seems like a very ass-backwards way of finding a writing partner. You get a handful of responses from people you probably aren't familiar with and you team up based on a few e-mails.
Pia and I are currently bouncing ideas at each other for a collaboration; it's the writer's equivalent of gorillas throwing poo at each other. Sure it's fun, and we hope to have something to show for it in the end. But right now, there sure is a lot of poo.
This collaboration (we'll call it The Poo Project), is something between Pia and myself. If she was to drop out of it, I wouldn't bring it to someone else.
When selecting a writing partner, I would go with someone I know and work with his/her strengths. If I wanted to work with someone on a horror script (for example), there's someone here whom I want to work with for a slasher script (because I like his gritty action talents). Someone else for gothic horror (for the way he sets a mood and for his characterization). And someone else for the way out there nightmarish horror (for his way out there imaginative style).
Picking a partner at random, IMHO, will only result in a lot of frustration. Can you really take pride in your work when the wrong person has control over half of it?

Very important words, right there. For something like this, it's true, you can't just pick a name out of a hat and expect something good. At best, it allows you to prepare for the worst.
So we try for one more time today.... The funny thing is we were both excited like we didnt fail yesterday. This time goes a lot better than the last time , because we manage to seperate our jobs. I will write, stucture, format, give live to characters, think the ideas , make the things flow well and he will talk ! Most of the time about what he will make the money we get.
To be honest i enjoy listening to him, it was really funny. This will be my funny project , not a real project just for fun ( of course i will give everything i have to make something decent.)
Who knows maybe i will have a <<writing>> orgasm too .... ( not the same orgasm as mentioned above)!

You called me a gorilla?
I agree what you said about the rest. It can be great or very hard. I've tried with several people, but you have to know each other a little bit and see the story you're trying to write in the same light. If you don't it won't work.
