My wife and I while on the road traveling started discussing who the perfect cast was for a particular movie. We agreed on many of the movies but them we asked who the worst cast for a movie was and it got interesting. My favorite for the perfect cast for a movie was...
(BEST) CASABLANCA (WORST) SILANCE OF THE LAMBS (PART TWO)
Anyone else have a best/worst combination they wish to share?

the list could go on and on for the best since so many movies have casted so well. Even some horrible movies casted perfectly. But the one movie to stick out for the worst is Gigli.
Honestly, Jennifer Lopez as a hot Lesbian bounty hunter? Who's going to buy that?
Another huge horrible casting decision was Denise Richards as Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough. She was supposed to be a rocket scientist. Yeah, a rocket scientist. Again, who's going to buy Denise Richards as a rocket scientist? She's not the first female rocket scientist in the Bond canon. Moonraker had Holly Goodhead, but Lois Chiles could pull off rocket scientist. She was good looking enough for a bond girl, but average enough to be a rocket scientist. Denise Richards swings too far to the hot model side of the dial. bond girl? Sure. Rocket scientist? Hell no. |

Angelina Jolie has been cast as Kay Scarpetta in the thriller movie based on the novels by Patricia Cornwell. I could be wrong, but I can't really picture her as Forensic scientist and Medical examiner and lawyer. |

Christian Bale straddled both territories for me in Harsh Times.
At first, I was like WTF, this proper, well spoken (albeit straight talking and sullen) British geezer trying to pass himself off as slang talkin', south central L.A wigger is not working for me. But to be fair, as the film went on he completely lost himself in the part and by the end I totally believed he was that crazed character.
Watched it twice within about three years and had the same reservations-turning-to-admiration reaction both times.
Average film but a fantastic performance from Bale, I.M.H and a big fu?kin' O! |

I haven't seen the movie in its entirety but I'm pretty sure the worst casting in history would be Timothy Olyphant for Hitman. Not a bad actor and while the movie was bad, it's not gonna go down in history as one of the worst. Maybe the most mediocre but not the worst. But WTF? Most random casting ever. It's not so much that Olyphant was a bad choice so much as he was completely out of left field. He had nothing that fit the role yet nothing that worked inherently against it. Except his voice. You can tell they had to pitch shift that motherfucker. But yeah. They must've been throwing darts at a list of Hollywood actors. They may as well have picked someone up off the street.
Best casting IMO is American Psycho. Obviously Christian Bale's performance is legendary but outside of that, I've never really seen the film in terms of acting. Rather character. Every actor was their character and while I've seen almost all the actors in other films, in American Psycho I've only seen them as their characters. It felt real in a way many films don't. |

Like George said, the best list will probably be like six billion miles long, but I personally think Die Hard was cast perfectly. Willis, Rickman, Bedelia and all the rest just fit like a glove.
Worst is more difficult. There are always gonna be movies where part of the casting failed and part of it was spot on (the Pirates movies come to mind), so I can't really think of one where all the casting failed - well, maybe Catwoman.
EDIT: Oh, 2012 just came to mind. The casting was terrible (except for Woddy). |

When did they make a sequel to Silence of the Lmabs? Do you mean Hannibal, shawn?
Ah yes, no Jodie Foster...I see now!
Best casting? Jaws - although i am biased as its my fave movie. I recall reading they didn't want huge name actors in it to take away from the shark scenes.
Worst casting? Hmm, that could be an endless list too...
Can't imagine Timothy Olyphant in Hitman. He was absolutely brilliant in Deadwood. |

Worst has to be Tara Reid as an intelligent librarian in Alone in the Dark. Did they think that throwing a pair of glasses on her face would make any difference. She's still just the chick from American Pie with the bad boob job.
A close second would be Maggie Grace in Taken. An excellent movie that she nearly ruined thanks to her overacting and stupid run (Daddy!). The part must have been written for a 15 year old or she just really is that bad. |

Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist in The World is Not Enough was pretty hard to accept. |

Matrix, Tommy, Kes, Usual Suspects best.
Worst - oh, where start. Those bloody Dan Brown movies. Arse biscuits.
Anything with Chevy in it. Hostel. Deathproof. Those last three "Star Wars" movies.
Anything with Joan Collins in it. Etc. Where is my Matlin?
R
EDIT: I quite liked Harsh Times. I had to watch it twice two. Oh yes. He had a lotta do with the production of that one Col. Interesting guy is Chris. Especially when he's shouting. Speak soon.

Showgirls was a disaster on many levels.
Particularly the Swimming Pool scene with Kyle and the Blonde. It's worth watching for comedic purposes.
I do remember the line earlier which went something like "don't come back until you've fucked off some of that puppy fat".
Comedy gold. I watch it regularly just for a laugh. And a wank.
