With the end of the year near, I wanted to give a few thoughts on what was good and what to look forward to.
I’m keeping it short and sweet at just three items per…
2014
Writing stuff-- In 2014, I optioned a script, I wrote one new screenplay Re-wrote two existing works
Non-writing stuff— Made manager in my company Bought a new car Stayed married (a testament to my wife’s ability to deal with the dumb shite)
2015
Writing stuff— Start a new script with a member here (she knows who she is) Get my optioned script made into a movie Participate more on this site (give back)
Non-writing stuff— Lose weight Complete an invention I’m almost done with Complete my second photo-journal book
Write, finish whatever I'm writing, and get it optioned. Lol
Expect a new script up soon

Just Murdered by Sean Elwood (Zombie Sean) and Gabriel Moronta (Mr. Ripley) - (Dark Comedy, Horror) All is fair in love and war. A hopeless romantic gay man resorts to bloodshed to win the coveted position of Bridesmaid. 99 pages. https://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-comedy/m-1624410571/
2014 Wrote a ton of shorts - sold, optioned or had produced 15 of them and won an award or two along the way. Sold one short for translation into a feature, fingers and everything else crossed that this happens. Most importantly, learnt a ton, much of it from the great SS community - thanks all.
2015 Finish my first feature, and write more some more. Continue to constructively contribute on here (and elsewhere). Continue to learn.
Thanks all and here's to 2015, sure it's gonna be awesome!
2014 I seriously don't remember - the years and events just blurr for me into one.
2015 Plan to finish a Christmas feature and really work on polishing. THen rewrite and rewrite - I'm not good at it as I often bail out and start something new. so, I'm thinking this time I won't. I like the concept and I want to submit it later to comps. So let's see.
Happy New Year, everyone!!! And congrats on all the accomplishments - looking good.
Happy 2015 -- hope this will be a good year for everyone here, writing-wise and non-writing wise.
As for my writing accomplishments/goals - not much, really:
2014
Started screenwriting. Uh... wrote a few crappy shorts.
2015
Get better. Write more than a few pages a month. Even considering I only started in July and have been reading plenty of scripts/about screenwriting, I've been slacking on the actual writing. Write a pilot. Write my first feature and hopefully at least 1 more. And if I consider something I wrote good enough, enter a screenwriting competition.
An extra good luck from me to Dustin (I've always found your motivation about screenwriting/filmmaking inspiring) and Angry Bear (5 features sounds like a big goal and I liked the have fun tag), and a big congratulations to Anthony (15 shorts optioned/sold in a year is amazing).

Hey DS, I think you have made good progress, and quickly. All the best.
If you want a read, let me know.
2015
For me...
Keep learning
Keep trying
Keep being able to take the knocks on the chin - they happen all too often

I've been slacking for too long honestly. The only thing I did was enter a contest in 2013, and I'm 25 years old, writing scripts since I was 10. I just write but I don't get anywhere because I don't make moves. I've been on and off about giving up, and yeah, you can't really give up anything you haven't tried to do, but I was giving up on the writing itself. I was struggling with all of the BS that comes with the job, you know, like "rules", and when this has to happen, and when that has to happen, etc. That shit gets frustrating.
I gave up for good recently, but got a huge motivational/confidence boost from Mike Kospiah when I found out that he was starting from scratch on his anthology project and the only short he was keeping was mine, plus adding another short that would be a continuation of it. I look up to Mike, love his writing, and truly believe that the guy is going to be a big name one day, so it really meant a lot to me that he was keeping my stuff. Here's a guy who's getting all these great reviews and awards for the movie he wrote (Suicide Theory), and it just meant a lot to me, ya know? and now I'm ready to get back in the swing of things, with intentions to actually make a sale, for real this time.
I doubt I'll be around here anymore after SC, if that ever gets off the ground, because I'm gonna be too busy. Plus, as a friend of mine once said, I really need to focus more on the writing instead of "refreshing the portal". I've learned a lot here from a lot of cool people since I found this place in 2005 and I'll try to keep in touch with some of ya, but I think my SS run is over...for a couple of reasons...but the main one is that I just want to focus on slamming out feature after feature, without any kind of distraction. Pia wants to do five this year, and I want to do 12. It's time to push myself, more than ever. Good luck to all of ya with your writing.
I've been a member on and off for years, under different usernames (I'm never consistent). I had to re-register under a different name recently (my last one was "Deadite", if you remember). I know who you are, Shawn. I read Equal Retribution back when it was first posted and remember liking it quite well. I have my reasons for wanting to distance myself from this place, but if I brought them up it would steer this thread off course drastically. I would have no problem discussing it with you off the board in PMs. It would be more appropriate. But my main reason is really to just cut off the distractions... no more saying I'm gonna write and then spending the rest of the night sitting on my ass, refreshing the portal on SS and browsing other websites. I gotta cut that out and just write, nothing else. And I made enough friends from here who I remain in contact with through e-mails and Facebook, so if I'm in need of feedback, I can always ask them. The feedback isn't the problem. It's the fact I'm not finishing anything that's the problem.
Thanks DS - just hoping they come to fruition now, as I'm learning that... 1) They don't always pan out 2) They can take an age to get 'filmed' 3) post production can take longer than the filming itself, e.g. two shorts were filmed in the summer but are still not finished.
Dead by Dawn, don't want to second guess your reasons, and I have similar resolutions re writing more and getting less distracted... But I'm hoping to cut back rather than exclude entirely. Hope to see/hear you in the boards occasionally this year.
I never make resolutions anymore. I never stick to them, and things always change anyway. You evolve without knowing it half of the time. Or you do the opposite and digress. Without knowing it. It just creeps up on you.
This is a great, unique, fantastic site. It's not just a place to learn and hone your skills, but to also be recognized and spotted. All for free! Now how many websites offer that?
