Universal is putting a sequel to  Dawn of the Dead on the fast track. The writer of the first, James Gunn would like to see a 'new' title other than Day of the Dead and confirms all the characters are dead at the end of Dawn.

Oh no they did it again, it's almost like we're in a never ending hell. What did we do to deserve another pointless sequel?

It's bad enough that Hellraiser has like 3 films coming out this year alone.

I guess if they decide to do it nobody can stop it so sit back relax and prepare for another zombie-comedy film

Maybe this time Zombies will shoot out fetises that attack like those things from Alien ha-ha

I just watched Dawn of the Dead remake again at the weekend and do not see a good enough plot line for a sequel! It seems to be extremely limited to the same storyline as the first. While it was good in places it wasn't that great overall.

I don't see the point in this at all and never have done with all the endless sequels to certain horror franchises such as Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13th etc...

Enough with the overkill already!

The main problem with sequels to horror films is that the bad guy is the one to appear in the sequels. However, when it some to good sequels, who is usually the one to reappear? The good guy. This usually negates whatever good was done previously and the game starts over. Some of the Nightmare sequels were decent, in my opinion, mostly because they had characters survive from one to another, although in 4 the first task seemed to be wiping out the survivors from 3, but I digress.

Dawn of the Dead was a zombie flick meaning that they will likely use the same tired zombie plot that has been trampled to death already. a-hem...a group of humans finds themselves trapped somewhere mundane while zombies try to eat their brains. They must survive or die, but at the end, they'll all die anyway.

If it follows any other plot, then it might be worth watching. If not, throw it on the pile with 95% of the other zombie movies, 'cause here we go again. At least chick flicks (while following the same basic "chick flick" plot) throw something imaginitive in there.

Wouldn't a sequel to Dawn of the Dead pretty much be Day of the Dead? See these remakes are screwing up everything. There's supposed to be a Day of the Dead remake coming out which would be the sequel to the remake of Dawn of the Dead so A Dawn of the Dead 2 will be pointless.

From what I've read, the makers of the sequel are stressing that this not a remake of Day of the Dead but a sequel to DotD'04. The sequel's story will in no way be similar to Romero’s Day of the dead (except for the zombies). Also that there are no plans at this time to remake Romero's Day of the Dead. Boy, this is getting confusing.

I reckon it'll get to the point soon when movie studios will start shooting a film and then two weeks later start shooting it's remake...

Boy will that be confusing if the remake comes to cinemas first!

There shoudlnt be sequels to remakes especially ones remakes to sequels. Would Dawn of the Dead 04 be considered a sequel to night of the living dead remake or....what's going on? I'm so confused....

I think it was meant as a stand alone or remake to the original.

That is exactly not what I want to see... A dawn remake 2 what the hell is HollyWood thinking? I've seen enough of all these remakes... Everything you see today, this is for the younger folks, is something rehashed or remade or based off of something else or someone elses work... Nothing original and nothing shocking... it's a sad day for the entertainment world in deed.

I see more original works here on S.S. than I have in the last 5 or 6 years out of Hollywood... that is sad and true all at the same time.

Saw loose remake of Torso
Tool Box Murders remake of Tool Box Murders
Dawn of the dead remake of Dawn of the Dead
2001 maniacs remake of 2000 maniacs
Ring remake of Ringu
The Grudge remake of a remake of a remake... C'mon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amityvill
Evil Dead remake
Texas Chainsaw massacre

When's it end?

These movies have ran their course lets move on past these ideas and see what else we can conjur up in our minds... I know Steven King isn't the only one out there who thinks... I know that with everything I've seen and done and written about, I'm not done by a long shot...

We don't need remakes... we simply don't!

Could be worse... could be like "Psycho" where it wasn't really a remake, it was just a complete re-copy (if that's even a word).

I haven’t found an official article, but word is that this will be Zack Snyder’s next project after he completes his adaptation of Frank Miller’s 300.

How do the do a sequel to Dawn of the Dead.... do they just put different people in a shopping mall? Cause really what clal it Dawn of the Dead 2 if there is no returning cast and the only key theme it has in common is that they both contain Zombies.

I'm thinking that the producers will probably do with this sequel what they did with the "Dawn" remake.  They will probably take the main ideas of "Day" (society is doomed, very few living people left, military vs. scientists, etc.) and make all new characters and settings.  According to imdb, neither James Gunn or Zach Snyder are really attached to the project.  The writer is listed as Jeffrey Reddick (the screenwriter behind the "Final Destination" franchise) and the director is listed as Steve Miner (director of "Halloween: H20" and "Lake Placid").

Now, as for my idea of what they will do with this remake/sequel, they're just my thoughts and not really based on any actual info.  As for the people behind the camera, I have to say I think they could actually work out  a pretty fun movie.  The first "Final Destination" (the only one of the series that Reddick actually wrote) was  a decent enough ride and I always thought that Miner's "H20" was the best "Halloween" film since the original (that ending especially kicked ass... only to be ruined by the cinematic abortion that was "Ressurection") as well as his above average B-Movie, "Lake Placid."

I'm thinking that if I were to walk into this one in 2007, as long as I expected just a solid action flick with cool heroes kicking some undead ass, I would come out with a big, happy grin on my face.  Of course, this is just me thinking wishfully, and only the future will tell.

Here are the links to the imdb page as well as a semi-recent article from aintitcool.com announcing Miner as the director of "Day of the Dead:"
