It was always going to be interesting to see what Danny Boyle came up with as his first movie since Slumdog, the Oscars, and presumably being given his second chance in Hollywood (I think it is fair to say he blew the first one with a couple of stinkers).
His new movie, 127 hours, premiered at Toronto this week and it looks like it might be another top draw Boyle film. The reviews I have read are all excellent and lots of talk about a brilliant performance from James Franco, even some Oscar talk already.
It's based on a true story about a guy who gets his arm trapped under a boulder and is stuck in the middle of the Utah desert for five days alone. There is one supposedly grisly scene at the end that has had people fainting in the theatre and as one review said "possibly, the single most horrifying sound effect in movie history".
Thanks to Sniper, I read the script yesterday and it is great, but think due to the nature of the film, i.e. an hour of it is nothing else other than a guy stuck under a boulder, it will be an amazing film if Boyle has managed to pull it off. I can't think of many directors who I would put ahead of Boyle to do that.
Top of my list of films I'm looking forward to this year...

Where's this coming from? The stinkers are there, for sure, but I wouldn't say he blew anything. Aside from Slumdog, two of his films are now classics and even films like The Beach weren't all that bad (I'd say that particular film fell victim to bad marketing more than anything).
Other than that, this is also in my top ten most anticipated. I'm hoping between Boyle, Aronofsky and the Coen bros, one of them can save 2010. So far, it's been packed with mediocre, forgettable films. Inception lost its magic upon the second viewing. I'm eager for something genuine.

Have you seen Scott Pilgrim vs. The World? That's my 'most memorable' film of the year so far.
And yeah, I hope this'll be awesome too. Danny Boyle makes excellent films - 28 Days Later was good, the first two-thirds of Sunshine were great, and Slumdog was excellent. I have high hopes.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Boyle, most of his films are in my all-time favourites. I just get the feeling that after Trainspotting he was given a chance in Hollywood and came up with "A life less ordinary", that might have been forgivable if it were not for The Beach, which considering he had $50m to spend on that is a pretty awful movie (IMO).
Since then however every film he has made has been a classic (I even loved Millions), and I can't help feeling that making (comparatively)low budget, Independent, British productions is where he works best. This one however looks set to prove me wrong, which I am pleased about.
Memwipe - Sci-Fi, Action, Thriller (114 pages) - In a world where memories can be erased by request, a Memory Erasing Specialist desperately searches for the culprit when his wife becomes a target for erasure -- with his former colleagues hot on his trail.
But the script has no title page? Simon Beaufoy is such a noob!
