Bruce Willis as John McClane will get me there on opening night no matter what. The minute he's done, I'm out -- much like the Bourne films, though those aren't on the same level.
My order for the Die Hard films is Die Hard, Vengeance, Live Free, Harder. Live Free is at least wildly inconsistent; Die Harder is just relentlessly mediocre.
Right after Live Free or Die Hard came out, I was largely dissatisfied with the way it had turned out and challenged myself to come up with a better Die Hard. My idea was to take it to Vegas, but use the son as a villain. The son would be part of this paramilitary militia that wants to pull an OKC on the MGM, trapping everyone inside, to make a statement about the nation's decadence and greed and the economy. Of course, one element they don't expect is John McClane Sr. spending his honeymoon there with his second wife.
It's a new spin on the first movie, where Bruce Willis fights his way through a confined space full of innocent bystanders, but he's facing his own flesh and blood. I could never decide if I should play John Jr. as the main villain or the changeling/shapeshifter who starts as a baddie, but then sympathizes with his dad and changes sides.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think this idea's way better than "A Good Day to Die Hard."
"I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called 'Max'."
So there's a new trailer for 'Good Day.' Looks like John Jr. could start out as a bad guy or at least be in trouble. There's a lot of James Bond-type action in it, but no taxi-vs.-helicopter or semi-vs.-F-22 shots. That makes me feel a little better.
"I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called 'Max'."
I'll take both of those over the shit I'm seeing in this trailer. That's not even mentioning their new poster, as well. I mean, this is making Live Free or Die Hard look good and that's a very bad sign.
Ok, I wasn't too impressed with the trailers... But I was somewhat encouraged by the series going back to rated R territory. Sadly, I think the big red flag I was hoping I wouldn't find flew high today. Check out this tidbit from Collider...
The much-anticipated action sequel "A Good Day To Die Hard" has reportedly scored a 97 minute runtime.
That clocks in at nearly half an hour shorter than the previous shortest "Die Hard" film (the second) at 124 minutes.
Wow, really? 27 minutes shorter?!? That's a whole act they like... just for got about! Seriously?
Did someone think... Why not, it worked for Jurrasic Park 3. Oh, wait. No, it didn't.

LATEST NEWS CineVita Films is producing a short based on my new feature!
Brett, you hadn't heard about the shorter runtime yet? Damn shame. That wasn't much of a surprise because the trailers show about four action set pieces and that's all. Anyway, this looked like a disaster from the beginning and you can tell nobody cares. If being released in February weren't enough, Bruce has already been talking about how much he looks forward to the 6th one. Completely glossing over the fact this one even exists... =)
I'm guessing that most of you on here that are fans of either Bruce Willis or of the Die Hard films have already seen this movie by now. I will say that I think Bruce Willis is the best action star we have today, and that I am a big fan of the Die Hard movies. After all, it wouldn't be Christmas without watching Die Hard One on Christmas Eve!
That being said...and there are no real spoilers here....I saw Die Hard 5 with my girlfriend and I have to say this Die Hard was the worst of the franchise. The biggest problem I had with it was that the villans really were not memorable like they were in most of the other Die Hard movies (especially Die Hard One and Three). Also, Bruce Willis delivered a number of one-liners in this movie, but really non of them compared to the classic one-liners he had in the earlier Die Hards.
However, I STILL liked the movie over all...I was just somewhat dissapointed.
Without spoiling the movie for anyone that hasn't seen it yet, what did you all think of it?
"...and the quarterback is toast!"

One of a very small group of people that actually saw Kevin Costner's "The Postman" in theaters, and I LOVED it!
