As RayW correctly surmised, this October '13 One Week Challenge topic and genre will be announced on October 11th at 10:00 pm eastern daylight time.  Each person who takes the challenge will have one week, one hour and 59 minutes to write a screenplay between 6 to 10 pages. The screenplay must  be properly formatted and in PDF format.

Regrettably, iScript.com is going out of business, so there will probably not be an audio performed version of a selected screenplay.  If anyone knows anyone who is willing to do an audio-script in exchange for free advertising, please let me know.

This challenge is completely open to the public, so there will be non-discussion board members participating. I know everyone hates that, but it is only once a year.

There will be a Writer's Choice wherein the participants (and only the participants) will be asked to select one script he or she likes the best.

The Schedule:

October 11th at 10:00 pm edt - Theme and Genre announced
October 18th at 11:59 pm edt - Scripts are due
October 31st at: 5:00 pm edt - Names Revealed and Writer's Choice revealed.

The Gist:

  • 6 - 10 pages
  • PDF format
  • Properly formatted
  • This isn't a contest
  • Free to submit
  • One entry per person (you can try to slip one by me. If I catch you, the second or third script will be posted after the challenge).
  • You can revise your script as many times as you wish up until 11:59 pm on 10/18.

Visit SimplyScripts.com for what is new on the site.

I try to pay attention.

Looks all good, even the heinous "open to the degenerate, filthy, disgusting, rabble" part.

Excited to read everyone's scripts. It will be interesting seeing everyone's different take on the genre or topic. It almost reminds me of anthology movies like V/H/S.

Excited to contribute as well of course.

A bad writer, trying to become decent...

Thank you for all who put up with my work and try and help me improve.

Practice will hopefully pay off for my writing.

We do have an alternative to Iscript, if anyone is interested.

Last year I set up a facebook group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/408704702532488/

The idea was to use skype to do table reads. This was intended just as a tool to help the writer. We would record the read, and it would remain with the writer to do what he wanted with it.

We could either do something similar, having just simplyscript members read, or I could message the members of that facebook group. Even though I haven't done anything with it, I still get several requests a week to join, so there is interest out there.

We could probably do the top 5 scripts.

Just throwing it out there as an option.

Woohoo! The only sad thing is I will stop working on my new feature for that week though will try  and get some done.

And just we don't forget - 10 page max means 10!  Not 11 or 12.....TEN!!!

Jeff will have the down marker chains ready to keep that under control! Lol

Kind of sad hearing iScript going out of business. I had maybe 10 or so scripts made by them. I thought they did a good job.

That's inspiring. A sentient red balloon with a slow leak, sneaking into bedrooms like a vampire to steal breath instead of blood. The analogy extends to the stake too, a pin that could destroy the balloon in an instant.

Just found this.  Very happy to see something is brewing and almost to a bubble.

Just please, no wheelchairs or old houses.  I'd even rather have the main character be a jean short wearing Aussie bloak!

I'm hoping it'll be something dark at least. Something suitable for Halloween. Not a comedy.

I'm hoping for horror-like elements (like suspense and thriller) in addition to just horror. I can't write subjective genres like horror and comedy to save my life. =)

Gah!

As if there were ANY OTHER options for the OCTOBER OWC?!

Gah!
The mind reels at the suggestion of any other.

Puh-leeeze! Just give us our candy-crack once a year. Please. Pretty please. With a cherry red bloody eyeball on top.

Let it be horror themed.

I know I'm new here, but this isn't really a suggestion or anything...

But it would be cool if it was horror themed and the top five scripts we're presented in an anthology form. Like a Halloween anthology.

I don't really know how these things work though, but I just love anthology style things ahaha.

For the most part, the genre has been one sub-genre of horror (gothic horror or adolescent horror).  We try to avoid slasher as it's too easy.  One time it wasn't horror but, rather, Halloween...

People got real bitchy over this one.

You know, this is a really cool idea. I wonder if there's a way that a future OWC could be designed to support the shorts's incorporation into an anthology after the challenge? Like, after the contest, shorts would be divided into sets of four and then they could be finished off with some in-between segments? I can't quite get my head around how you would design that; maybe four different themes/topics would be decided upon, and contestants could declare their interest and then privately be assigned one of the four themes, and then they could be anthologized after the reveal? Or something? I dunno, but it sounds cool.

That sounds pretty challenging to get it all together and execute without the hiccups.  How was Soul Shadows put together?  That would be pretty cool to organize something like that seperate from the OWC.

Cornetto and I tried to do an anthology with the motel/hurricane OWC, but it turned out to be harder than we thought to put them together into one coherent piece. Also, the motel we were going to use has bee sold to be a transitional home for veterans. The SoulShadows anthology worked well, but it was different.

If I write one it would be my third Halloween entry this time of the year - I don't even know if it's normal for an average person (generally horror averse person). I'm changing.
And I'm becoming hairier by the way. These two things (horror shorts writing and hair) must be related in some way. I'm scared.

Look at it this way:  If the OWC subject is about Werewolves, you'll have first hand knowledge.

Then again, maybe you just spilled some Rogaine on yourself.

Hey it's good to see some new 'female' members and some old 'ones' (and I use that word, loosely) coming back to SS, and hopefully the OWC. Looks like it might be a big roll-call of entries.

Hi, and welcome back to Silva and Harriet B.   Great to see more 'girl power' on the boards. And, a shout out also to BigLew!

P.S. Marnie, when I glance at your avatar too quickly it always looks like a giant turkey.
