Hi folks

I'm off on holiday soon and would love to hear your ideas for a writing challenge.

I seem to be better at writing to a specific challenge than just sitting down and trying to write.

I could just look at old Movie poet ideas but you guys tend to come up with some cool ones, so why not ask here.

You never know it may inspire others to write as well.

Preferred parameters are...

1) short script topic - I'm not in for a feature at the moment

2) lowish budget - l like the idea that they could be made.

3) Something cool and different, or contentious

I don't mind pisstake suggestions, they may inspire me and let's be honest...they're gona come in anyway

What do ya recon?

Cheers

I know this isnt really different or contentious but my wife is pregnant and I have been wanting to write a short comedy about "pregnancy/future Parenthood"...Despite the fact that I am going through it currently I have had zero progress on the idea since I been wrapped up with other projects, But I will throw that out there as a possibility for you to try, Lots of directions to go with that.

Enjoy your holiday!

Bill, here's what I'd do - actually I've got an idea for one of these once I'm finished doing other things.

Self contained 'horror' i.e., one location, minimal cast.

Chris (Sham) is a master at writing them - Hiccups, The Thing That Wasn't - links below and inevitably they get filmed.

Here's another two 'horror shorts' on the net that I love:

I look forward to reading it... if you write one, that is.

Thanks for those

I will see what others come in.

What weird ideas there could be???

What could be tricky, or Unusual?

Bit like an OWC ...gosh I miss one one of those

I'm blushing.

I will say the market for low-budget, self-contained horror is ALWAYS open. I optioned The Doll a couple months back, and if the director follows through with that, that'll be three for three of the scripts I wrote specifically to get picked up. I think that's why these week-long challenges are so rewarding -- we're writing what people want to see and are ready to produce, versus telling a story that might fall on deaf ears.

How about something like where someone throws up a logline, and we're challenged with writing it? No specific genre, perhaps, just a ten page minimum. Low budget is ideal, one location--something like that.

Which is why the 1+6WC is what it is this time.

Congrats, btw.

Here's an idea that could prove quite a challenge...

Single location.
No dialogue.
5-10 pages. No more, no less.
6 characters maximum.

The logline...

A mysterious dance troop hold an audition for an opening in their group, but the applicants soon realise they're not just trying out for a place on the team, they're dancing for their lives.

The logline could be tweaked slightly, but that's the essence of it. A last man/woman standing sort of vibe.

My guess is the genre would probably be horror, but I could see a comedy coming from it too. It would certainly have to be very visual, and to tell a story with no dialogue is sure to prove tricky. Whether it would be easy to film due to choreography is a different matter, but not totally out of the question. From what I understand plenty of actors study dance as it looks good on their CV. It could even be used as a music video. The possibilities are there.

I'm just putting it out there. A challenge was requested, the words tricky and unusual have been used. I'm simply throwing down the gauntlet. Though, saying that, I wouldn't get involved myself as I'm too busy trying to finish my 7WC.

I hope my idea proves worthy of acceptance. But whatever the outcome, nobody puts me in the corner, I'm too busy stepping up 2 the streets.

Peace out.

I understand, baby. Well, Swayze might get you in the corner. Him and his hips.

I see. No dialogue, but lots of dancing. Not sure this one's for me.

Now you'll have to excuse me. My goat needs a walk.

We did a NO dialogue OWC here in Feb -06. It was my first script. I remember Shelton tokk part and Mr. Z. There were a few more, but those are the once I still remember.

I learned a LOT from that OWC. Taught me how to think visually.

These could be two bad ideas... but maybe not... depending.

1. Research or pick a favorite myth, parable or folktale and turn it into a personal or contemporary story. Genre open ended. Theme driven.

2. One location. 2-4 elderly woman. And a violent twist. Genre... most likely comedy will be involved.

Might take this up myself.

A confused, religious man picks up a prostitute for the first time - unbeknownst to him, she's actually a man.

Any genre.
