Help Desk for Customer Service in a call center for a regional cell phone carrier that has market presence in 22 states. Its initials are USCC if you've ever heard of it. I deal with CSR's questions and angry escalated customers.
I actually do enjoy my job. Working in the games industry is a lot of fun. I honestly can't complain. I guess I got lucky
I have worked in call centres in the past, customer services, sales etc so I know what it's like. It can be soul destroying at times, especially when you have 8 hours of irate customers and very little appreciation for your work. Targets! targets! targets! I hated it

Amen!!!
As much as my job sucks, it doesn't suck as bad as being on the phones. Which I've did for 5 years. (Oh Dear God, what have I done with my lfe???!!!111)
I'm glad you do like your job!! Is it also working abroad that helps or the game industry alone which is fun?
I loved Germany and enjoyed working there for 2 weeks when I was younger. Plus the Oktoberfest is fun... German beer is strong stuff and they drink so much of it!!!
You reminded me... I have a friend in California who has been working on this new game called 'Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks ' or something or other, which is due out in september I think. I am not sure exactly what he did on it, but loves his job too. Hmmm, maybe I'm in the wrong industry!
To qoute that cool guy from "Dawn of the Dead" '04, "I sell TV's at Best Buy." Well, I used to, 'til I realized that I hated it there. So I dropped the job, dropped some of the weight I gained from working there (actually I just bulked up on muscle), and now spend my time hanging out with friends and mallratting around. But once I go to Pittsburgh for school, I'll have to get a job. 'Til then, I have recently made a Scarecrow mask and I soon hope to invent a fear toxin (boy I wish I was joking).
I don't hate my job, considering that I am posting from work right now, have access to Word, am able to save my work and email it home, and have enough time between calls to write quite a bit (my short The Last Word was written while at work, along with all of my Fempiror Chronicles screenplays.) I am not in love with my job and if I were to promote out of this position, my love might diminish considerably. I would rather write at home with a deadline and a paycheck, but I can deal with what I have. To be honest, the pay for as little as I do is pretty darn good, too. I'm getting over $15 an hour to twiddle my thumbs.
I've worked in three different call centers in the past. I think my experience was tainted by the last two places I worked where there were always 10+ calls in the queue and you could go a whole week without any break between calls.
The first place I worked was much quieter and I actually did enjoy it. I had time to browse the internet, write emails etc and it was good to talk to some of the nicer people you get on the phone. I found it helped me with writing dialogue too. You pick up on little nuances in the way people talk and react in different sitations. I used to play a game at work where I'd guess which area of the country people were from based on their accent. I was pretty good to. I'd have their local retailer up on the screen before they even told me where they were from. But yeah, the last two places sucked.
Your job sounds okay, I struggle to write a short in my spare time, let alone an epic trilogy while at work.
Thank God I am leaving my job in 5 weeks. Today I had the worst day ever.
I got told off for internet use at my office when I was in work before 9am. Now the firm are changing their policy of internet before work, after work and lunchtime to only 10 minutes a day MAX! My boss was very unproffessional too and b*ll*cked me big time and just shouted at me for 5 minutes straight. Sodding git. I was in shock for about 3 hours afterwards.
That sucks but I guess depending on your work maybe it was unprofessional on your part ha-ha I'd say get a laptop computer and use that... I'm not sure if you can get wireless internet on them but if you can you're set.
LMAO! Phil, I think everyone at work wants to do that for me! I just have to get used to no internet now... will be interesting to see how quickly I go out of my mind with boredom!
I hope that you have a blast on your upcoming trip. Speak to you soon, and d*mn the boss man!
Ps-Might I recommend the Grand Slam at Dennys? You could ask for extra napkins to wash with in the bathroom.
Now that is good times!
Hey sweetie,
I myself like the Slim Slam... lol! I will take extra napkins with me, be sure of that, otherwise I'll have no chance at all of meeting any fit guys Although, maybe then a lumberjack will walk in... hey, a girl can dream right?!!!!
Good times indeed, Mr T

Boss man wasn't in today so was able to have 5 luxurious minutes on the net all to myself. He's my number one hate right now, grrr... >
