Indeed this is that film. I believe Waters kept it a secret from the rest of the crew at the time. Divine. A man dedicated to do what it says in the script. Bless.
Any film that uses real animal killings in it is basically a film that has run out of ideas. I don't know about the making of Pink flamingos, but I wouldn't be surprised if John Waters added in that scene just for the "fun" of it. I always ask people how they would feel if there pet was killed for entertainment. How would you feel? Happy? Proud? I would feel pretty sick that I contributed to a horrible piece of "art."
I know worse things happen to chickens everyday, but that is still no reason to say that it is okay to kill animals on screen. That is like saying "It is okay to kill a real human, worse things happen to them everyday." You see how wrong that is? I know you aren't trying to annoy me rendevous. Everyone is free to their own opinion. I know Pink Flamingos is a cult movie which is probably the reason I am so different towards it. I am used to loving a lot of cult films, but Pink Flamingos was one of my biggest disappointments ever.
And yes michel, this is the film where he/she eats dog sh*t.
Hate on Pink Flamingoes is inevitable. It's not a so-bad-it's-good movie. It's a bad movie that's supposed to be bad. I think it goes far beyond shock value. Look at the acting for example. It's terrible and is supposed to be. Not sure what Waters' intentions were for it but to me, it's always seemed like a joke that its followers enjoy being in on. I could be wrong but it really seems more like a celebration of all things tasteless than something that's supposed to be funny because it's tasteless. I thought it had its moments. The egg lady still grosses me out to this day.
It's not my favorite Waters movie though. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of his but I did like A Dirty Shame. I think it's his best. A lot more fun than Pink Flamingoes and not as cutesy as his later movies (Hairspray, Crybaby, etc.). It finds a happy balance. Honestly, I'd recommend it to anyone who hated Pink Flamingoes.
