Saw this with the missus yesterday.

Hmm.

Acting was generally solid, although there were a couple of spots where I could see Gaga acting (hope that's clear). Her voice, as always - tremendous and Bradley had a surprisingly good one. Sam Elliot - as always - rock solid.

This just didn't hook me. I think I've seen it too many times making me almost inoculated to the pain. You know exactly what's going to happen because it - well happened it the two earlier versions. Also didn't care for the fact that Ally (Gaga's character) had almost no spine when it came with dealing with her agent - seemed counter to the otherwise string character they were developing.

Rating:

Eye candy for my wife = A (she loves looking at Bradley)

Overall movie = B -.

Worth the price of admission.

I really enjoyed the beginning, but didn't like where it eventually went.

Gaga's character was good, but I didn't like how they molded her into a pop diva.

In terms of Cooper's character, well, it was sad, to say the least...painful at times.  I didn't like how we never knew what those white pills were and I didn't like how weak he was when it came right down to it.

Acting was strong.  Cooper really impressed with his musicianship.

Overall, not for me at all.

Grade - C+

Agree with much of this.  Rate it just a bit higher

I liked a lot of this - in the beginning...

But, I didn't like the choice of turning her into a pop-diva either. It seemed to go against her independent out of the mould character they set up in the first place.

And when Jackson's character died, the ensuing scenes were lacking in emotion - a complete anti-climax for me. Talk about taking the wind out of the sails. Lucky to get a tear out of me and I'm a sucker for a tear-jerker. Oh, he's dead, let me lie on the couch looking forlorn for a moment which then equated to: did I put milk on that shopping list? The Streisand/Kristofferson version was so much more powerful and enjoyable emotionally.

I liked a lot of the setup but any tug the audience might feel emotionally was completely wrung out of it.
And that's down to direction, Bradley Cooper!

There was more emotion and chemistry on stage at the Academy Awards.

I didn't hate it.

However, this movie seemed weirdly paced and put together. It didn't flow well to me. Like a lot of scenes were cut.
