Hey guys I received an email from a scriptproofreader and maybe you would be interested to contact her.

Take a look at it:

What's up, Helio?

I saw your listing on simplyscripts.com.  Are you still looking for an agent or a producer to option Stormville Chapter I and any other scripts you've written?  If you are, don't be discouraged.  Perhaps, you can do more to make your script stand out from the rest.  Most writers worry about their plot and characters but neglect to give writing style adequate attention.  Your story might be great, but readers get taken out of it as they stumble over grammatical errors and misspelled words.

My name is May, and I proofread screenplays.  I can help you with grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and passive language.  If you're not sure that your script would benefit from proofreading, send me one page, and I'll correct it for free!

Mail it to:
The Script Proofreader c/o May Drucker
PO Box 24600
Los Angeles, CA 90024-0600

Or email it to thescriptproofreader@yahoo.com and give me a regular mailing address so I can mail it back to you.

Check out my website for more information: removed

If you have any questions about how I can help you or about how to proofread your own work, let me know.  I can also answer questions about specific grammar and punctuation issues.  You have my email address, and my phone number is (310) 626-5950.

Good luck with your writing,

May, The Script Proofreader

A quick google search reveals absolutely nothing about May Drucker, except for her own website.  That, in itself, is a red flag.  The fact that she doesn't even mention other clients is another red flag.

While you might benefit from such services, Helio (being English is your second language), I wouldn't go here for it.

I was always under the impression that you did well in Brazil with your writing.  If this is, indeed, the case, I would suggest that you do your professional stuff there and use the boards here to develop ideas and get feedback.  If ten of us proofread your work, we'll end up with ten different scripts.

Has anyone else received an e-mail from her?

I got this email too, with the subject heading being the title of my script. My advice: STAY AWAY!!!

She charges a dollar a page, which is about the same as professional coverage, just to pick out your typos. You'd have to be crazy to use this service. If you are that crazy, I'll proofread your script for fifty cents a page.

I'm tempted to send her a grammatically perfect page and see what she does with it.

There's a lot of these services on the web, some have more experience than others and some have a larger client base than others.

The fact that this person only has a web site with nothing else to backup her experience does in fact show a red warning flag..

She did provide her telephone number though and maybe she is good at what she does.. Maybe she is genuine and needs to work.. I know where she's coming from..

But you do have to be careful with this kind of stuff offered on the web.. I purchased a course from an English actor who resides in Ireland. He's written one screenplay but he has been in some Hollywood movies.. All I got was a copy of somebody's else's book in PDF format which I could have purchased in paperback form.. I still get emails from him offering this and that but he doesn't have any genuine information about how to write screenplays or to improve on being a screenwriter.. He made 29.99 UK Pounds out of me which is about $40 US I guess.. Yes I got the book and some other stuff but I wanted proper constructive advice about screenwriting and I didn't get any.. I can get that for an extra £140 UK Pounds.. More money on more money and this is the trouble.. Once you're hooked they wanna’ suck you dry.. Blood suckers!

But hey, there are some good services out there who offer genuine services to their clients and worth every penny.. You just got to be careful, is all..

Please keep under bidding each other.

I'll proofread it for free!

But if you sell it, I want a million dollars.

I also received this email. I did with it what I do with all the advertisment emails I get: delete it. I'm guessing this person went through the site and grabbed a bunch of scripts. My lucky script was "Forgotten" of all things. This is a 50 page thriller that I figured was too long to be a short. So whoever she is, she's going through multiple genres. Helio has so many posted, though, it's odd that she found an "S" script by him first.

Anyway, I am capable of proofreading my own scripts, and generally have very, very few typos. I'm not interested in anyone offering to proofread for a charge when I have all these wonderful on SS to do it for free...or for the price of providing the same service to them.

I received this e-mail today and reported it to Yahoo (where it came from).  I recommend that everyone else do the same.

I recieved this email, as well.  It was the exact same email, ver batim, save for my name and screenplay title.  A quick check on the web proved fruitless, and her own website shows absolutely no type of credentials.

Definitely a pass.

Yup - same here. I instantly deleted it.

Phil - can we email Yahoo and complain? On what basis? (just want to get my words right when complaining)

Man, this lady gets around.  I shouldn't have deleated it so quickly, so I can investigate it further.  Did anyone try calling Ms. May at her listed number?  Could be interesting.

I bet everyone got a little excited to get an email with the name of their script in the subject line...

I just got this today. The reason it validates Phil's concerns is the script they chose to mention.
