I have a program from Screenplay.com called Hollywood Screenwriter.

It's for beginners, and it's been a great tool to use so far.

However, some of it is bugging me.

The program formats the screenplay properly, but it doesn't let you save it as anything without messing up the format. For example, if I saved it as a MS Word document, it would remove the "Continued" sections and completely mess up the margins.

There's also no way to convert it to a pdf, so I always have to save it a text. This is frustrating because, as many of you know, reading a screenplay as a text document is very intimidating, so I never get a reader who feels "neutral." The instant they look at a text document, they want nothing to do with it.

So does anybody know of any way to convert it to something else without messing up the format?

Also, I was reading screenplay format rules on this website, and it says you should have a "Continued" at the top of each page. My program won't let me do that. Do I really need it? I'm thinking because my program is for beginners, it won't have half of the options I really need.

So does anybody have any thoughts? I hope I haven't made this too confusing.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need the CONT's in a spec script, so don't worry about it.

In regards to saving it, can you save it as an .rtf file?  That generally keeps the formatting.

Iro printing/saving you can also download a small program called CutePDF. Once installed you can print your file as a .pdf file. It's brilliant

PrimoPDF does the same job, once installed simply select print and change your printer to pdf and bingo.  Oh it's free by the way too.

Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.
